Week 366 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Xander Foxwood

Hello! ✨

For week 366, I chose Xander Foxwood to draw in my art style! 😁 I am happy to see my name on the winning list again. Thank you so much, Splinterlands! Wohoo!

On the other note, the market is quite bleeding... ouch! But this is the perfect time to buy some Hive, right? 😁 Market will always have ups and downs, so I remind myself that this is normal, hehe.

I bought some Hive to take advantage of the dip. I just bought how much I am willing to risk.

"TOne spring day in Anumün, a tiny (but egotistical) Pixie named Xander Foxwood buzzed into Summoner’s Green during one of the Magi’s summoner classes. He insisted that in spite of his size and lack of experience, he could summon circles around anyone in the group. A few practice battles proved Xander correct, and now he is one of the leading summoners of Anumün."

More lore on this link right here.

At first, I thought this character was an elf, and then I realized it has some wings, haha. And so, reading the lore, this character is a pixie, well, a grumpy pixie, haha. I do not really know the difference between a pixie and a fair,y but to me they look similar. This pixie is a warrior typ,e judging from the clothing and its sword.

Art Process

  • sketch and line art

The pose that I chose was similar to the original card. I wanted a full body pose, but due to time, I just did a portrait pose. I then used a blue colored pen for the sketch. I just changed some of the hand positions to fit the facial expression. On another layer, I used a soft line art brush. I always use a vector mode layer so that it would be easier to erase the lines that over lap each other. I used a lighter weight brush for the inner lines.

  • base color and shading

For the color, I used the tool called the color picker to copy the color from the original art. I colored each part on separate layers so that it will be easier for the shading. I used a cell shading brush and a blurring brush to soften the edges. On another layer, I used a soft airbrush for the glow.

In the background, I thought of a simple foliage of leaves and branches. It would match the vibe of the character since it is a pixie. I thought of pixies and fairies living in the deep woods. I just used some brushes in my inventory that I downloaded from the asset store. I used these tools so that the process will be faster, especially in time constraints.

Final Art

I needed some visuals so I went on to Pinterest to see some inspo. I just type the prompt like "forest", "greens", etc. There were many choices to choose from that I think sometimes it took me time just scrolling, haha. So I had to just pick fast. I just combined them and came up with this!

Finally, I was done doing this entry before the countdown expired.

Tadaaa! I hope I imparted some knowledge through my art process! 😊 Feel free to ask anything in the comment section, and I will answer to the best of my skill!! 🥳💕
