Week 356 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Chaos Agent

Hello! ✨

Hey, hope everyone is doing well. 😊

Happy to see my name again in last week's contest. Congrats to the winners and all of the participants.

For this week, I chose Chaos Agent.

I describe this character as somewhat serious, gloomy, and mysterious. I feel like this character is on the dark side, haha. Given the eyes and colors, I assume that this character is associated with dark energy or power.

Chaos Agent

"These agents of chaos don’t carry any weapons and weren’t intended as soldiers. Subtle words and targeted destruction are their gifts, and they employ them with precision, carefully choosing their victims to create the most confusion and misdirection possible in preparation for their master’s invasion."

  • sketch and lineart

My idea for this card is somewhat of a manhwa vibe. 😄 I like the close-up portrait and then giving details to the red eyes. I wanted the atmosphere to be gloomy or mysterious to match the character. I then looked for a reference on Pinterest. I do not know if Agent Chaos has a hair or not, haha. So I just assume he is bald, haha. It reminds me of monks, somewhat like that. Using a textured line art brush, I started working on the cloak, and then on a separate layer, I drew the face. I always separate the two so that I can adjust them later.

  • base color and initial shading

I then chose the color for the base from the original card. I was looking for a dark navy blue for the cloak and a deep brown-red for the eyes. The details beneath the eyes remind me of Eren of Attack on Titan, hehe. I then used an airbrush in soft mode for the details around the eyes. I just started with light colors first and then slowly introduced darker colors. Same with the cloak, I used a cell shading brush for the folds. I then airbrushed a darker color on the edges for some dimension.

  • shading and shines

Now, I intensified the shading on the cloak and on the eyes. Most of my time for this artwork went to the eyes coz I really wanted the eyes to be the star, haha. I really want to capture the character's mysterious side through his eyes. The eyes were red and somewhat scary, haha.

For the light, I assumer that the light source came from the character's left side. Although the atmosphere is gloomy and rainy, still, I want to incorporate some light, mayber some lamppost, so that it has a dimension. Eliminating the light makes the art flat and uninteresting. I used a mixture of soft and hard airbrush for the light. I smoothen it out using a blend brush. I t was hard for the face because of the structure but then I managed to get it through with patience and referencing, hehe.

Since I chose gloomy weather, I incorporated the element of rain. For that matter, I manually drew rain droplets on the cloak. The rain as well, was manually drawn using a straightener ruler. I then blurred out the edges to show the element was moving. At the back, I chose a dark color with a backlight.

Tadaaa! I hope I imparted some knowledge through my art process! 😊 Feel free to ask anything in the comment section, and I will answer to the best of my skill!! 🥳💕
