Week 355 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Gargoya Lion

Hello! ✨

Hey!

We are currently experiencing a flood in the city, and yes, most work and classes are suspended. It has been raining all day non-stop... Luckily, I did my laundry just before it poured so badly. 😄 It was hard to dry the clothes during these times and now, I am just relying on the dryer.

And also, so happy to see my name first on the list of winners! What a rare event, hehe. Thank you so much, SPL! 🥳 Also, congrats to other winners and every one who participated on last week's contest.

"The new gargoya creatures have all developed distinct personalities and gone separate ways. Many of them cannot be controlled by any authority, but others among them are natural leaders. The one with the most commanding presence is the Gargoya Lion that used to perch just above the tower’s drawbridge as a guardian. Not only is the lion the largest of the gargoya race, but he appears to be the strongest as well."

  • sketch and lineart

For this week's card, I chose Gargoya Lion. Pre step was looking for a nice references for the card. I specifically looked for a lion with a nice mane. The wings can be disregarded at this stage since mainly, I was looking for a lion pose. I can't find a reference in the form of gargoyles, but I found it in wood material. (See reference at the end)

  • basecolor and initial shading

In my eyes, the base color of the original art is a light brown to gray. It was hard to determine, hhaha. I was going back and forth from the two colors mentioned. I end up using the light brown. And on a clipped layer, I used a hard airbrush for the shading. Ugh, honestly, I do not like my art at this point. I don't know but felt ruined... But I just continued anyway. I want to finish this art few days before the deadline.

  • adding the details

So, the detailing step was the most consuming part of them all. Here, I started looking for a marble texture reference online. I do not have a marble brush on my tools so I just improvised one. I just looked for a brush that ressembles the texture of a marble. I actually used the zap and lightning brush and tadaa! I think it worked haha. I just lightened the layer. For the podium, I just used the shape tool to get the perfect rectangle coz if I just used no tools, it will be a wack! Hahah.

✨🖌✨

I thought to myself that there is something missing in the canvass. It looked like it was all plain gray and brown color, and so I added some greenery. I always have unused image pens on my tools untouched. So while in the middle of doing this art, I was lowkey organizing my pens too. I was happy to find different shades, shapes, and textures of leaves and branches. On another layers, I applied the images and blurred them out to create a dimension- in fromt and on the back. Lastly, masking the entire canvas with a texture image in low multiply mode.

Tadaaa! I hope I imparted some knowledge through my art process! 😊 Feel free to ask anything on the comment section, and I will answer to the best of my skill!! 🥳💕
