Entergalactic || A Warm Blast of Pretty Colours

One of the animations I’ve been procrastinating talking about for the longest time would have to be this one. I’m not sure why that’s the case. Maybe it’s because in the last year, I’ve seen bits and pieces of it and was never able to complete it till recently. I wasn’t sure if I’d remember the details, so I had to see the animation from the beginning.

Entergalactic (2022)

There’s Jabari. A charming artist who has a penchant for graffiti art as well as street clothes and is on the verge of success in his career. He’s the regular dude with the regular issues. Weed, pressuring exes, anxiety... The likes.

Then, there’s Meadow who's moved to the next door apartment in his condo. She’s also an artist by way of photography and oozes beauty, charm, charisma and everything in between. They both have had it bad in relationships like every other person, but they can’t deny the spark between them. Question is, can they make out space for love in their lives at this point of their lives?

My Thoughts and Rating

First thing, the art in itself. The beautiful animation and the art portrayed were out of this world. I was caught in all the lights and colours, and usually, I have issues with too much light and too much colour. And this movie had it in spades. But somehow, they made it work in the most beautiful way and I enjoyed it. I’ve always loved art. In another life, perhaps, I wouldn’t be the artist with the skill who stopped trying. I would pursue art that is away from writing and be amazing at it. Just because of how much I value art and people who make art.

The next would be the storyline. I liked Jabari and I liked Meadow. Maybe they were too laid back for my liking. I’m assuming that it's an artist thing, or maybe it's the weed. I don’t know too many artists, but the ones I know have always been chill. Weird as well, but in a way you’re drawn to. That’s how these two were. I loved their story. Seeing them overcome their fears. Both in their work and in their relationships. Seeing them taking the plunge to be intentional. All of that good stuff. It spoke deeply to me.

Another thing, is the music. I think that’s one of the things I immediately clocked. I was like, “whoever made this film has a thing for King Cudi.” The tracks were beautiful. I’ve only heard of King Cudi in passing. Never listened to any of his music. Or if I had, it was certainly not me going out of my way to listen to his work. So, I loved how it was used in the production. I don’t know. It fit.

Somehow, I can’t see any other tracks by an other artistes fitting than the ones that were used. Which, by the way, were all King Cudi music. Imagine my surprise when after seeing the film, I found out that King Cudi was actually the maker of this animation, and sas even the one playing the voice of Jabari. Crazily entertaining stuff. A lot of things made sense then.

Anyway, this is one of those animations that you would want to see again. Just for the beauty of it. Or to feel the artistic magic just leaping out of it to settle in your insides. I’d like to believe it was a good experience, and honestly, if I could have recommendations of animation this nice, that genre may just become my favourite thing. So, suggestions are welcome. It’s been a while I’ve seen good movies or talked about it. I hope to have another to share with this amazing community soon. Oh yeah, and this is definitely an 8.5/10 for me.
