An Enlightening Discovery

Politics is such scary business.

What to do when you’re a newbie entering into politics, who gets introduced, and it looks like you’re about to be swallowed up. First off, breathe. Second, try with all your might to show that you know what you’re doing. Even if in reality, you most definitely do not. Third, quickly learn the ropes. Fourth, use all you have gathered to your utmost advantage.

I didn’t think I’d ever get into politics. It was as far from me as maybe, I don’t know, being an astronaut. I’ve thought of being an artist, a musician, a lawyer, a writer, and even a gamer. But never a politician. I love the concept of power. I love calling the shots. But only from a distance. Only with things that wouldn’t be noticeable like with my writings and a little circle.

But politics on a grander scale had never spoken to me.

Until now.

So here I am, being indoctrinated into all the nuances and secrets that the game holds. The right cards to play, the right things to say. The actions and inactions that could make or mar my political aspiration. Today, has been a lot. I’ve been moving from one meeting to the other, both physical and virtual. And most importantly, tying all lose knots and preparing the grounds for the grand elections on Friday.

Even with how exhausting and draining today was for me, I couldn’t help but notice an underlying excitement within me. Even though this was never my plan. Even though, I was merely recommended for this political position, and possessed no real love or even interest for it, I’ve learnt to see it as the stepping stone that it is and make the most out of it. I may have even come to love the idea of it?

I guess what I’m saying is the value of not writing anything off. We don’t know what’s in the cards for us till we actually see the cards. And in the same vein, we do not know how our lives will shape up to be, so it’s best to welcome whatever it is as far as your spirit agrees with it, and then make it favour you in the best way possible.

I’m beginning to realize a lot of things about myself, especially in recent times. I’m seeing the kind of person I am. I’m redefining who I am, my principles and values. It is proving to be such an enlightening discovery, and I wish we would see just how many opportunities are placed in front of us if we make the most out of it.

Either way, I can’t wait to see what life has in store for me. One thing is for sure, I will be letting you know how the election goes no matter the outcome. Will I win this race or will I lean from this? All will be known in due course. In the meantime, wish me good luck. We’re breaking bounds and stereotypes, people. Let’s watch and see.
