Splinterlands: Thaddius Brood is a good counter to magic monsters
Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Thaddius Brood as my summoner.
Featured cards
Thaddius Brood is a death summoner that costs 6 mana. It gives a -1 magic and health debuff to your opponent. Increasing its level increases the maximum level at which you can use your cards in the fight. I have this card at level 6 so I can play common cards up to level 8, rare to level 6, epic to level 5 and legendary to level 3.
Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Heavy Hitters, What Doesn't Kill You, and Five Alive. This means you can only use up to 5 monsters and that all monsters start off with the enrage and knock out ability. There is also 32 mana and I can choose earth or deathsplinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | -1 health and magic |
Cursed Windeku | 6 | 1st | Thorns and Heal |
Arachne Thug | 6 | 2nd | Reach and Trample |
Silent Sha-vi | 5 | 3rd | Sneak |
Ravenhood Warden | 4 | 4th | Protect and Inspire |
Supply Runner | 6 | 5th | Swiftness |
Total Mana: | 31 |
I use Thaddius Brood as my summoner because it is a good counter against the Earth deck. In case my enemy uses death, I choose to avoid magic monsters because of my choices in my death deck. Cursed Windeku is my tank due to thorns and heal. Then I have Arachne Thug as a monster with reach and trample. I have a strong sneak monster in my third spot. My last two spots are ranged monsters with some good support abilities such as protect, inspire, and swiftness.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match but this match could still go either way due to that taunt monster and healing monsters. My opponent can wipe out my lineup if I can't kill off enough monsters.
Round 3
I fast-forwarded to round 3 because not much happened outside of trading blows. I was able to take out both the tank and the taunt monster. So this match is my win. Given the speed difference, I don't think I will miss many attacks so there won't be much that my opponent can do.
I ended up winning this match later that round like I expected. I moved before my opponent could do any of his attacks.
Conclusion
The battle this time did not play out as expected. Since we were limited to earth and death, I thought that reducing the magic damage would work out better. I picked a good tank to start and had the rest of my team either increase my damage or support my lineup. With this, I was able to take out my opponent before he could do too many attacks.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Thaddius is a great summoner as you said. I often use him and will miss him, when Chaos Legion rotates out of modern.
Yea. I will be sad to see him go when Chaos Legion isn't in modern. My entire deck will be weaker when that does happen.
You had stronger cards and basically the cursed windeku took the damages and actually healed nicely. Good battle
Yea. Cursed Windeku is an amazing tank.
