Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Ulundin Overseer's Flank can be useful
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Ulundin Overseer.
Featured cards
Ulundin Overseer is a neutral splinter that costs 11 mana. This splinter starts with decent stats but no attack. It starts off with flank, and it doesn't learn any other abilities. Increasing its level will only increase its armor or health. This card costs quite a bit of mana to use so I don't use it too often. However, I do think that it has its uses as the second melee monster can attack while this monster tanks the attacks.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Shades of Grey. This means that only neutral monsters can be used. There is also 46 mana available, and I can use fire, water, earth, or life splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Underboss Fabino | 5 | Summoner | +2 melee or poison |
Ulundin Overseer | 11 | 1st | Flank |
Mantaroth | 11 | 2nd | Armored Strike and Shield |
Halfling Refugee | 1 | 3rd | |
Mad Ogre Anarchist | 6 | 4th | Opportunity |
Chaos Battle Mage | 8 | 5th | Pierce |
Drybone Bowdog | 4 | 6th | Ambush and Scattershot |
Total Mana: | 46 |
I use Underboss Fabino as my summoner because it can give +2 melee damage to two units. Ulundin Overseer is my first tank because of its stats, and it allows my second melee monster to attack. Next up is Mantaroth with shield to reduce physical damage and armored strike to deal extra damage. Halfling Refugee is a filler monster, as I had one mana left, and it will distract my opponent from my backline if my first two tanks die. I have Mad Ogre Anarchist with opportunity, Chaos Battle Mage with pierce, and Drybone Bowdog with ambush and scattershot. These last three monsters are damage dealers
My strategy is to use Ulundin Overseer as a punching bag while my Mantaroth deals extra damage due to my summoner and the armor that it has. Mad Ogre Anarchist will also have the extra melee damage from my summoner because it has opportunity, and I can take out some of my opponents' backline. Most of the damage will be focused on the front monster and Mantaroth will act as a strong damage dealer in the second spot.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent doesn't have much damage, so I can just rely on my own monsters to slowly destroy them. I don't think there is anything my opponent can do to overcome this with his lineup unless I miss almost every single attack.
Round 3
My opponent lost four monster and I have lost one. There is no chance for my opponent anymore in this fight due to my damage advantage.
I ended up winning this match later that round as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. Ulundin Overseer was a great tank and support monster. It let my Mantaroth deal 8 damage per turn if it didn't miss both of its attacks. There wasn't much my opponent could do because I had the damage advantage. The rest of my lineup just focused on damage, and my opponent couldn't do much once their tanks were dead. Ulundin Overseer's flank is a great ability, and it works well with some great damage dealers. In my case, I used Mantaroth due to the armored strike ability, but it can be other good monsters that can't use their melee attacks unless they are in the first spot.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

This card is a good tank, I like it too, with weapons training it gains some plus but not mandatory
Yea. It's a good tank but I find myself not using weapons training as much because I think Flank is better.

Great game. The ULUNDIN allowed your second card to use its armoured strike
Mantaroth is such a good card to give flank to.
