Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Focusing your damage is a great idea to win Equalizer fights

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because of my strategy.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Unprotected, Equalizer, and Going the Distance. This means that only ranged monsters can be used, no armor can be used, and all monsters start off with the same health. There are also 46 mana available, and I can choose water, earth, life, and dragon splinter.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Helios Matriarch6Summoner+1 speed

Gargoya Devil72ndClose Range and Flying
Hero of Beyond73rdClose Range
Venari Crystalsmith44thTank Heal
Pelacor Arbalest65thDouble Strike
War Pegasus76thFlying
Total Mana:45

I use Helios Matriarch as my summoner for the +1 speed. Zyvax Vuul is my tank with flying, close range, and recharge. I also have Gargoya Devil and Hero of Beyond after with close range to act as backup tanks if my tank dies. Gargoya Devil also has flying too so it should be able to dodge a few attacks and give my backline ranged monsters a chance to attack. I have Venari Crystalsmith with tank heal to keep my tanks alive. Then I have my last two ranged damage dealers, one of which has double strike.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. I have a healer, and I have 3 tanks versus the 2 that my opponent has. Also, two of those tanks have flying so I should be able to dodge a few attacks. All of my monsters are also all focused on attacking the same monster, while my opponent has one monster with snipe.

Round 3

round 3.png
It looks like my opponent has two monsters while I have only lost my first tank. It's too bad that my first tank wasn't able to get an attack off because of the speed disadvantage, but the heals have been quite helpful in keeping my monsters alive. At this point, I have the match won because my opponent is almost out of close range tanks.

conclusion.png
I ended up winning this match a few rounds later, as I expected. I did lose another tank, but I was able to finish off my opponent without any trouble.

Conclusion

The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. Focusing my damage on the same monster worked out well and healing my tank allowed my tanks to survive. With these two strategies, I was able to take out my opponent while keeping my damage dealers alive. This is especially the case in a battle where Equalizer is active because every monster has the same health, and taking out monsters works out better than spreading out my damage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

It's a good combination for ranged only ruleset.

Awesome strategy man. Using all the flying monsters with close range really helped you control the fight. The tank heal kept them alive longer too. Good stuff, very good stuff

The Gargoyle devil and the Venari combo was really sweet. I think the flight ability and the heal. The card with the double strike did some good damage as well. Good game today
