Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Executing my opponent with Thanalorian Blade

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Thanalorian Blade.

Featured cards

Thanalorian Blade is an Earth monster that costs 6 mana. It starts with opportunity. It learns execute at level 2, lookout at level 3, and trample at level 6. I actually have this card at level 3, and it's one of the current epic cards available in the Glint shop. Unfortunately, my summoners in modern only allow me to use the card up to level 2, though. So I can't use the lookout ability.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is Hive Five and Heavy Metal. This means that only up to 5 monsters can be used, and only monsters with armour can be used. There is also 48 mana available, and I can use water, earth, and death splinter.

Total Mana:45

I use Underboss Fabino for the +2 melee. Mantaroth is my tank for the shield and armored strike ability. Then I have Pallus as my backup tank with reach and flying. Thanalorian Blade is my damage dealer in the 3rd spot. I have Fenmoor Wood Troll to deal with any flying monsters and for the blind. My last monster is Satha Toledo with tank heal.

My strategy is to increase the melee monsters on my side and use them to deal damage against my opponent. The ranged monsters are more of a support for my monsters to stay alive, so I can deal more damage against my opponent. Mantaroth is a very powerful card and so long as there aren't many magic monsters, it should be able to delay the opponent quite a bit.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My opponent will be focusing most of his damage against Mantaroth, so I should be able to attack quite a few monsters. The only concern is whether or not the taunt monster will cause any issues.

Round 3

round 3.png
My opponent lost 2 monsters, and my healer will die off from the poison. However, I think this match is over for my opponent. There just isn't enough damage for him to take out Mantaroth in a timely manner. The rest of my monsters will wipe out the rest of the monsters. The Thanalorian Blade is looking quite good with its ability, as it hit once already to finish off a low health enemy.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later. It also looks like the Thanalorian Blade's execute happened again towards the end to get an extra attack in.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I expected. My melee monsters did a great job of dealing damage and the rest of my monsters did their job. I wasn't expecting my healer to get poisoned by my opponent and die, but it did take a few hits from my opponent's Thanalorian Blade. So I guess things worked out. I also messed up and didn't set two monsters with the melee boost, but that Thanalorian Blade's execute seems more useful now that I have seen it in action.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I often use this card, it's pretty good, the double attack on low health is very useful too

Yea. It would mean 6 damage if the execute activates.

Your level 2 underboss summoner played a huge role. Also, I believe the first card acted as a decent tank. Overall you had the better lineup. Good win.

Yea. I think the summoner was good. I don't know why my opponent went for poison, but I guess he thought my healer was the biggest issue.

Yeah, and that's probably a mistake on their part. We learn new strategies everyday
