Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Dread Tafarian works well in earthquake foundation battles
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles, with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Dread Tafarian.
Featured cards
Dread Tafarian is an earth splinter that costs 9 mana. This splinter starts with the heal ability. This card doesn't learn any new abilities, but increasing its level will increase its stats. I use this card quite often when I use the Earth Splinter in foundational battles because it is the best tank available. There are only so many choices, and I find myself just defaulting to this card. I currently have this card at level 3, so it has 2 more health compared to its default level 1. I am looking forward to the 2 attack when it is leveled up again.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Fire & Regret and Earthquake. This means that ranged attacks will be countered, and any non-flying monsters will take damage each turn. I can use fire, water, earth, or death splinter, and I have 31 mana available.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Aurelia | 6 | Summoner | +1 Health |
Dread Tafarian | 9 | 1st | Heal |
Mad Gearhead | 6 | 2nd | Reach |
New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 3rd | Taunt |
Total Mana: | 29 |
I use Aurelia as my summoner because it gives +1 health and access to the earth monsters. Dread Tafarian is my tank with heal. Mad Gearhead is my backup tank with reach, and New Beluroc Aegis is my last monster with taunt.
My strategy is to tank the attacks with Dread Tafarian because it has heal. It will help offset the earthquake damage and give me a better chance of outlasting my opponent. My third monster, New Beluroc Aegis, will help my Dread Tafarian survive longer because the taunt will soak up some of the damage. I opted not to use any ranged monster because of the counter damage.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. My opponent has two magic monsters in the back, and it isn't that good for me due to his summoner. However, using a taunt monster seems like the right choice. At least, it will survive a round or two to reduce the health of his magic monster.
Round 3
My taunt monster is dead, but my Dread Tafarian is still at full health. After the earthquake hits, my opponent will be down to one monster left. At this point, there is no way for my opponent to kill me anymore. The heal will keep my Dread Tafarian alive long enough for the earthquake to finish him off, even if I miss all my attacks.
I ended up winning later that round because I didn't miss any attacks.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. My plan was to use Dread Tafarian as a tank and a taunt monster to outlast my opponent. This worked out exactly as intended because the earthquake just slowly wiped out my opponent's lineup. My opponent went more for a magic setup, and wipe me out before the earthquake took him out. Unfortunately, I was aiming to outlast my opponent, and the taunt monster kept my Dread Tafarian alive. Overall, it was a good fight, and I won because I focused on trying to survive. I have found myself using Earth more in foundational fights because I have quite a few leveled up cards there.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

That's a good idea to place the taunt behind so Tafarian doesn't get many hits
Yea. The taunt monster in the back helped quite a bit to spread out the damage.

I see the heal ability really helps counteract that damage over time. Adding a taunt monster just makes it even harder for the opponent to break through
