Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Arkemis the Bear is a great card in Melee Mayhem
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Arkemis the Bear.
Featured cards
Arkemis the Bear is a neutral splinter that costs 12 mana. This card starts with the protect ability). It learns halving at level 4, forcefield at level 7, and cripple at level 10. I don't use this card too often because of its high mana cost, but I do think it's a great card. The protect by itself can help your cards live longer, and the halving ability is great if Arkemis can attack.
Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Need for Speed, Melee Mayhem, and Reverse Speed. This means that only monsters with at least 3 speed can be used, melee monsters can attack from anywhere, and the speed order is reversed. There are also 36 mana available, and I can choose any splinter. It's rare to see a match where I can use all splinter types.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | -1 Magic and Health |
Cursed Windeku | 6 | 1st | Thorns and Heal |
Arkemis the Bear | 12 | 2nd | Protect and Halving |
Halfling Refugee | 1 | 3rd | |
Uraeus | 3 | 4th | Sneak and Poison |
Ravenhood Warden | 4 | 5th | Protect and Inspire |
Xenith Monk | 4 | 6th | Heal |
Total Mana: | 34 |
I use Thaddius Brood as my summoner for the -1 magic and health. In my first spot is Cursed Windeku as my tank with thorns and heal. This is a good tank since melee monsters can attack from anywhere, and the extra counter damage will add up. After that is Arkemis the Bear as my backup tank and since it can attack from anywhere, it is quite useful. Halfling Refugee is another backup tank and I am mainly using it due to the low mana cost. I have Uraeus in my 4th spot with sneak and poison. Ravenhood Warden is my 5th monster with more protect and inspire. My last monster is Xenith Monk with heal in my last spot to deal with any sneak monsters.
This lineup makes use of some decent tanks up front and with a heavy focus on melee monsters. By buffing up my melee damage and adding in 4 armor to my units, my monsters will be quite tanky. My summoner also reduces the magic damage so it will be a struggle for my opponent to finish me off. Arkemis the Bear can also reduce the damage of one monster so it will be quite useful in making sure that I can outlast my opponent.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. My opponent has quite a few strong magic monsters, but most of his tanks are all melee monsters. So long as I don't miss, I should be able to wipe out my opponent's melee monsters and finish off those magic monsters before all my tanks die.
Round 2
My opponent lost 2 monsters while I only lost 1. At this point, I don't think there is much my opponent can do to stop me. There is no way for him to heal, and unless I miss a bunch of attacks, I should have this match won.
I ended up winning this match a few rounds later, as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. Given the ruleset, I just thought that Arkemis would be a good fit as it would keep my monsters alive longer while my summoner reduces that magic damage. I wasn't expecting to face a max-level summoner and those strong magic monsters, but I was still able to pull through. Having those tanky monsters up front helped quite a bit, and my focus on melee monsters worked out well when I added in the inspire. I was limited in my choices for monsters since they must have a minimum speed of 3, and speed was also reversed. Etiher way, things worked out and I took out my opponent without any issues.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Arkemis is great if you level it with halving
Yea. That ability makes it quite useful.
Arkemis is op i like to play possibilitus combo with him + mantaroth on second pick with both gf i get for 2 cards 20% + 20% promo bonus that's dope :D
That is a good combination. I haven't bothered playing that, but it sounds like a great way to get boosted rewards.

nice battle and Arkemis the Bear when it acquires the Halving ability is a very useful and versatile card
