Splinterlands: Riftwing is a good backup tank with Scavenger

Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used the right cards under the right ruleset.

Featured cards

Captain Katie is a life splinter that costs 5 mana. It starts off with the flying and scavenger ability. It learns backfire at level 5 and headwinds at level 10. I have this card at level 5 as a gold foil card so my card has backfire.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Melee Mayhem and Briar Patch. This means that all monsters start off with the thorns ability and melee monsters can attack from anywhere. There is also 15 mana and I can choose any splinter splinter except for water.

I use Thaddius Brood as my summoner for the -1 magic and health debuff. The ruleset is against melee monsters so I use Corpse Fiend as my tank because it costs 0 mana and its a melee monster so it won't live long. Then I have Chaos Agent with dodge as a backup tank to take hits. Riftwing is after that to tank more hits and if there are ranged monsters, then the backfire can also deal extra damage. Ravenhood Warden with protect and Weirding Warrior with shatter are my main ranged damage dealers.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match because my summoner neagtes the magic increase from the summoner. The only issue is the protect will make it harder on my ranged damage dealers and it will depend on whether or not I can land my attacks.

Round 4

round 4.png
I fast-forwarded to round 4 because not much happened outside of trading blows. My riftwing is up top and my opponent is left with just his two magic monsters. If I don't miss too many attacks, I should win this match.

conclusion.png
I ended up winning this match a few turns later like I expected and I did miss quite a few attacks like I thought I would. The high speed plus flying on the last magic monster made it quite hard to deal with.

Conclusion

The battle this time did not play out as expected. There wasn't much mana available for me to use in this match so I decided to go with ranged as my damage. Since melee is at a disadvantage, I used Brood as my summoner to reduce the magic damage and this gave me enough time to finish off my opponent. Riftwing did a great job of tanking the hits until my ranged monster landed their hits to finish off the match.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

It's a great card, I use it often, I think if you had gone for mage instead of ranged you would have won

I think magic could have gone better, but my magic lineup wasn't as powerful in death.

That was a very close game. Some card just shine and this time it was a card without an attack type acting as a tank with that scavenge ability.

Yea. I was a bit worried at the start but Riftwing lasted long enough.
