Splinterlands: Martyr works out well in Noxious Fumes
Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Sand Worm.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Noxious Fumes, Fire & Regret, and Going the Distance. This means that only ranged monsters can be used, and all monsters start off poisoned and they have the return fire ability. There is also 43 mana available, and I can use any splinter splinter except for life.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Drake of Arnak | 4 | Summoner | +1 Armor |
Zyvax Vuul | 8 | 1st | Flying and Recharge |
Ettin Spearman | 8 | 2nd | Piercing |
Firecaller | 5 | 3rd | Martyr |
Pyrewatch Devil | 3 | 4th | Lifeleech |
Venari Marksrat | 3 | 5th | Marytr |
Sarius | 3 | 6th | Bloodlust |
Total Mana: | 34 |
I use Drake of Arnak as my summoner for the +1 armor. Zyvax Vuul is my tank with flying and recharge. This will let it dodge some hits and the recharge works well as the return fire won't hurt it the first turn. Then I have Ettin Spearman as my backup tank with its decent health. I have two martyr monsters in the third and fifth spots to buff up my monsters. Pyrewatch Devil is in the 4th spot with life leech in between those two monsters as it can survive a bit longer if it increases its health and my last spot is a monster with bloodlust. The ruleset this time is tricky, and there isn't much I can do as I just want to outlive my opponent (ranged attacks are countered).
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. I do think that I have the advantage due to the martyr monsters in my lineup, but anything could happen. The reduced damage from my opponents summoner will hurt a bit, but it also reduces the counter damage that I would take.
Round 2
I have lost 3 monsters, but my opponent only lost 2. However, poison will kill off 3 of his monsters this turn, so the match is mine. I won because those martyr monsters died and buffed up my monsters. It also added back in some armor on my monsters, so that they would survive longer.
I ended up winning this match later that round, just as I expected. If I missed all my attacks, it would have been a draw, but I didn't miss.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out exactly how I thought it would. With the ruleset, there wasn't any reason to focus on damage when it gets countered back at you. So I went with a delaying strategy, and the martyr monsters worked exactly like I thought it would. It allowed my monsters to live long enough and get the win by outlasting my opponent.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

The rat with martyr is like one of the best reward cards tbh
Yea. That rat is good when the martyr buffs the right cards.
That is a very smart use of martyr, But I think your choice of summoners made an even bigger difference. Very well played close match!
I think the summoner helped, but the martyr was what made the final difference. I don't think I would have survived long enough otherwise.
Great game. You had the shield advantage and strategically placed the Matyr cards very well too. This is a guild match right?
Yea. It was in my most recent brawl.
