Splinterlands Engagement Challenge: Decked Out - Thanalorian Scion is a great tank in magic only fights
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Thraghun and Arachne Weaver.
Featured cards
Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 11, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters. I don't think the true strike does much on a magic monster, but I guess it might be useful if the opponent has phase.
Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Wands Out and Ferocity. This means that only magic monsters can be used, and all monsters gain the fury ability. There are also 41 mana available, and I can choose any splinter except for earth.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 magic damage |
Thanalorian Scion | 5 | 1st | Void Armor |
Conclave Tracker | 8 | 2nd | Opportunity |
Argarux Magus | 3 | 3rd | Scattershot |
Daarg Deadblast | 7 | 4th | Swiftness |
Moxian Rebel | 4 | 5th | |
Captain Fellblade | 8 | 6th | Sneak |
Total Mana: | 41 |
I use Marlai Singariel as my summoner because it gives +1 magic damage to my entire lineup. Thanalorian Scion for the obvious reasons that I stated above. My 2nd monster is a magic monster with opportunity. THen I have Argarux Magus with scattershot. My 4th monster is Daarg Deadblast with swiftness. The rest is just some damage dealers, but Captain Fellblade is a strong damage dealer as a duo melee and magic monster with sneak.
My goal is to survive as long as possible with Thanalorian Scion while the rest of my lineup deals damage. By keeping Thanalorian Scion alive, my opponent won't be able to touch the rest of my lineup easily. There aren't as many snipe, opportunity, or sneak monsters out there that I know of. My damage is a bit spread out, but I think that the increased speed will help. I didn't talk about weapons training because the ruleset makes it worthless. The monsters must have a magic monster to be placed on the field, and monsters with no attack can't be used.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My opponent can't do much to my backline and his damage is also spread out like mine. There is only one monster that can attack my backline due to Thanalorian Scion having 1 health. I also have the speed advantage due to Daarg.
Round 2
My opponent lost 3 monsters while I lost 1. It's too bad that Thanalorian Scion died in the first round, but he did his job by tanking all the damage that they got. At this point, I don't think there is any way for my oppnent to win. My opponent's strongest monster also damages his entire lineup so there is no way for my opponent to outlast me.
I ended up winning this match later that round, as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. Thanalorian Scion did a good job by tanking the hits while the rest of my lineup dealt damage. Daarg was amazing with that speed boost because it gave me a larger edge over my opponent and guaranteed my win. It's amazing how good one tank could be because my opponent did have some strong magic monsters.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

That void armour is impeccable against magic attacks. I've played against it many times and lost..
Yea. I think this card is very good even at level 1.
