OSRS: Slayer and Bossing

image.png
It's been a while since the last update on my main account for Old School Runescape. I did stop playing the main servers for a while when Deadman Annihilation happened, but you can read more about what I did there here. Like before, my current goal in the game is to get a max cape, which requires me to max out all my skills. I haven't made as much progress in Slayer after focusing on doing bosses. I have been working on my other skills a bit as a way to relax and change things up.

Slayer and Bossing

I have started doing a few of the longer tasks that I have been avoiding. It's because my stats are higher now, and I feel that the grinds are worthwhile for the money or for the collection log. It just feels wrong to skip out on the bossing part and getting better at the game. Improving there might help me when I try for an Infernal Cape or Quiver in the future.

Kalphite Queen

Kalphite Queen

The first boss I fought was the Kalphite Queen. This was one of the first bosses added to Runescape, and it was there even when I was a kid. If I ever want to finish off the achievement diary, I will need a KQ head, and I had no luck during my Slayer task. The drop rate is 1 in 128, so I will have to come back again for this boss in the future, and I absolutely hate the run back to the boss. I didn't die at all, so that was a relief even if there were a few close calls.

Abyssal Sire

The next boss is Abyssal Sire. This is one of the newer bosses added, and you can only kill them on an Abyssal Demons task. I did die a few times, but after getting the hang of things, I was able to survive quite well. After the rework they did during the past year, they made it less time-consuming, so I felt it was worth it. The boss was quite fun once I got used to it. I still think I can die when I mess up, and you can get stacked out if you aren't careful.

Thermonuclear smoke devil

image.png
This is one of the newer bosses that I unlocked because it requires 93 Slayer to kill. I ended up getting two tasks for Smoke Devils, and I chose to do the boss variant. I think it was fairly profitable as I got lucky with the smoke staff drops. I am ashamed to say that I died once because I went with the melee strategy, and I was not walking under to trade hits 1 to 1. My notifications were a bit too late, and I died by the time I got back to my screen. I prefer the melee strategy like this because it requires less attention.

Demonic Gorillas

image.png
Demonic Gorillas are mobs you can fight after Monkey Madness II, and they are one of the most profitable slayer tasks. However, the tasks are quite long as the only downside. I have been avoiding these for a while, but I do want to greenlog the collection log. These gorillas are more of an elite mob rather than a boss. You have to swap your prayers and gear to continue dealing damage. Doing so on a Slayer Task only makes sense, so I have rearranged my blocklist and started fighting them again. I have higher stats now, so it doesn't seem so bad to fight them, but I wasn't lucky enough to get a Zenyte, which is what makes them so profitable.

Conclusion and my plans

It's been a few weeks, but I am making some slow progress towards that max cape. With my focus on Slayer changing towards bossing and longer tasks for collection logs, I find myself doing other things on the side to get a change of pace. I still think that Slayer is a great thing to do to get my stats up while working on that collection log. Overall, I am still working on that max cape, but these long Slayer tasks take a few days for me, given my limited time.

Do you play Old School Runescape? What did you like most about it, and did you have any goals?

The pets of Kalphite Queen is quite annoying to me

I actually don't mind the minions. It makes flinching the boss easier as I find it easier to stay under her when I need to eat or trade 1:1 blows.

Slayer is a nice skill, and there are so many slayer only bosses now.
