My learning English 2 : The basics

avatar

One time I read that there are basics concepts in all the languages, and if we want to dominate whatever language these basics we have to pass quickly, like when one want to go beyond of the sea, but one have to pass thought it. Beyond the sea means for me to reach out to dominate the language the best, without problems, as good as we dominate the mother language. For this it's necessary time and practice, which we can to get only when we are in contact with the idiom in its context. This is to be in deep waters, then to be in the surface is to understand the basics. Well, we can name some of these and to see their utility.

To request basic information

They are questions we can do in some first conversation, in a first meeting or gathering. I'll do a brief dialogue and highlight some of these questions:

Tom. Hello, what is your name?
Jerry. Hello, My name is Jerry.
Tom. Ok, it's a beautiful name, and where are you from?
Jerry. Thanks a lot, I am from Venezuela, I'm Venezuelan.
Tom. What is your job, and what are your Hobbies?
Jerry. My job is about the writing of digital content, and I enjoy reading books and watching movies.
Tom. Excuse me, how old are you?
Jerry. I am thirty-six years old.

In the dialogue, we can see really basics questions, about the name, the place of the origin, the job and hobbies and the age. It's a good manner of beginning in a conversation in this language for knowing a person, in an interview, in a presentation, etc.

Basics structures

After of to see some question basics information, I think it's important we pay attention to some basics structures. Such as:

  • A/an. It's the traducing of the indefinite singular article with the next feature: in front of a vowel sound is without "n" and in one consonant one is with the "n". Let's Highlight that we are talking of an sound, it means, that if the word begins with vowel, for example in the word university, like the sound of this one it's like a "y" we say: an university.

  • Plural forms. There are four forms: When adding -s, -es, -ies and the irregulars forms. We usually build the plural with the "-s" to the singular word, but in the case that these words end in s/sh/ch/x/z we build them with "-es" and if they end in <<consonant + "Y">> we add "-ies". For example, "He gave me five different replies". The irregulars forms have their particular building, for example, "If it was said for one person is just an opinion, but if it was for many people is truth".

  • "There is/There are". The first form is for singulars nouns and the second one for plurals. It's interesting to use them to make sentences more declarative, I mean, we can express us more directly, for example, "There are many reasons for redacting this post and there is just one for not one"

Basics sentences

Finally, I've wanted to regroup the following sentences because they are easy to form and very utile:

  • "it's" sentences. It's very utile with the indefinite article that we see previously, so we can use it for pointing some things, places and persons. For example: "It's a beautiful written", "it's a very kind person", "it's a new place for visiting". The structure here is:
It's + article + noun

  • Demonstrative adjectives. I like very much the sentences we can be building with this structure, because it is very useful for pointing and describing thing, people or places. For example, "That square was dedicated to Simon Bolivar and this to Francisco of Miranda, These people know it, but those don't" The trick is to know the distance of the object to which we are referring.

  • Possessives adjectives and pronouns. It's a structure that we can combine perfectly with the previously one, because we point objects and we indicate possession. A little story will come good for to get this:

That army is mine, but my brother is taking it because his is on another raid. Now, these lands will be ours until he welcome back with my guys.
