My learning English
Since years ago, I have been studying English and have wanted to find in some method for this. I have made different courses in this searching. But none of them were full of my expectations. In the past year, I begin again my journey in this my adventure of learning English, this time I have made this try on Platzi, a online platform in the which I am learning programming, but it has very much courses in others area, such as this language.
It's the reason why I have decided sharing in my loved blockchain of Hive some topics and how they are being understood for me, It's a plus in my learning's journey with this language because I can practice the writing skill while I highlight the things more essentials that I have got in my online classes, which are lead for teachers with years of experience and applied in real situations.
Before getting starting
Some important phrase for me here are: "The practice makes the master", and that "The best form of learning is teaching", I am professor an d I know that it's the truth. This is the reason why I will be sharing some post about my progress and for having a reference, I will show the level of the lesson, this meaning, if is a topic for A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, levels that indicate where we are in our journey, it's util for to review the topics when I'd want it, and to measure my progress.
The best form of learning an language is with the context of the words, it's mean, to learn a vocabulary without references is few util, for that not only I'll show you phrases and expressions but its use cases.
Greetings and farewells (A1)
Here I learned three phrases, if I don't understand a greeting as <<Hi, my name is "x" >>
- Can you spell your name?
- Can you speak slowly, please?
- Can you repeat that, please?
In this case it's important to know the English alphabet, that it's easy because is formed for the 26 basic Latin letters. An exercise interesting for that is to answer the following question: How do you spell "x" word? The exercise here is to spell phrases letter for letter, either listening to them or seeing them like an image.
As we are reviewing, the greeting is a perfect place to remember two phrases for creating a comfortable environment if we are in a conversation for the first time:
- Nice to meet you.
- It's a pleasure to meet you.
In a conversation is important asking and also answering about how we are, for that the classic question is:
- How are you? And some classic responds are:
- I'm well, I'm great, I'm fine, I'm busy, I'm stressed, etc. Also, we have the following important expression:
- Excuse me, I'm sorry, I'm sick or another similar sentence.
It's important to remember that there are formals and informal greetings: So, while "hello" is formal "Hi" and "Hey" are informal, and "Ayy" is a slang, a particular word of the place or environment, which we won't find out in an dictionary.
Finally, in respect of the farewells, the basic expressions are:
- Thank you for... your help, your time, hearing me, etc. And other forms of to say thanks: "Thanks a lot", for example.
- Goodbye, like a formal manner and "bye" informal manner. And other forms of farewells: "See you later", "See you tomorrow" "See you soon", "See you there", etc.
- Also, we must mention the "Good Night" because it's used normally like a farewell when going to sleep o is very late in the day. Different of "Good Evening" that is usually used like a greeting also, according to the hour of the day, such like "Good Morning" and "Good Afternoon".
