Grady runs into a woman just like Abby!

There everything becomes a mess of doubts and interesting conflicting emotions... the author writes in an agile way and as if playing with time and how she tells you things, so she forces you to doubt everything... it is clear that from the first moment she wanted to keep you hooked, and she succeeds, but, sometimes, so much jumping between the past, the present and the points of view, makes you a little dizzy, as if you were lost in a labyrinth with no way out. That, which on the one hand is interesting, is also something that they could have improved so that you wouldn't be so blown away by so many strange jumps, Grady is the center of the story, yes, but he is also a mystery in himself... his way of being is complicated and contradictory: sometimes he shows himself vulnerable and suffering for Abby, but other times his twisted head and his dark secrets make you think that you can't trust anything he tells you... that strange vibe extends to almost all the characters, all with something they're hiding and that makes you doubt, so trusting someone is almost impossible... it's precisely that atmosphere of mistrust that keeps you in suspense all the time, although sometimes it also tires you out a little emotionally, the truth is.

Hola a todos, amantes de la lectura, el día de hoy, quiero compartir una nueva reseña, esta ve les hablaré de una historia bastante curiosa, les daré mis opiniones del libro "Beautiful Ugly" de Alice Feeney, yo sentí una cosa rara, entre curiosidad y confusión.. desde el comienzo, Grady, este escritor protagonista hecho pedazos por la desaparición de su esposa Abby, te mete en un ambiente oscuro y que no entiendes nada.. la idea principal—un tipo que pierde a su esposa en un giro feo del destino y, un año después, se va a una isla re lejos, Isla de Amberly, buscando paz para volver a escribir—es impactante y perturbadora a la vez.. es que, cuando crees que ya entiendes todo, ¡pum!, Grady se topa con una mujer ¡igualita a Abby!

Ahí todo de vuelve un lío de dudas y emociones encontradas interesantes.. la autora escribe de una forma ágil y como jugando con el tiempo y cómo te cuenta las cosas, así que te obliga a dudar de todo.. se nota que desde el primer momento quería mantenerte enganchado, y lo logra, pero, a veces, tanto salto entre el pasado, el presente y los puntos de vista, te marea un poco, como si estuvieras perdido en un laberinto sin salida. Eso, que por un lado es interesante, también es algo que podrían haber mejorado para que no te volaras tanto la cabeza con tantos saltos raros, Grady es el centro de la historia, sí, pero también es un misterio en sí mismo.. su forma de ser es complicada y contradictoria: a veces se muestra vulnerable y sufriendo por Abby, pero otras veces su cabeza retorcida y sus secretos oscuros te hacen pensar que no te puedes fiar de nada de lo que te cuenta.. esa onda rara se extiende a casi todos los personajes, todos con algo que ocultan y que te hacen dudar, así que confiar en alguien es casi imposible.. es justo esa atmósfera de desconfianza la que te mantiene en suspenso todo el rato, aunque a veces también te cansa un poquito emocionalmente, la verdad.

I imagined myself walking through those foggy paths, feeling that cold and mystery, as if I were in Scotland, and the themes that the book touches on are strong, it deals with marriage and revenge in a very dark and twisted way.

Grady and Abby's relationship—well, or the idea of ​​Abby, who you never quite know who she is—is the center of it all, a story where love is mixed with betrayal, guilt, and a desire for revenge. It's hard to see how every character, even the ones that seem like they don't have any business, have a dark past full of pain, lies, and secrets that they don't tell anyone. But so much darkness isn't for everyone, some might feel that this book is "anti-men" propaganda, so opinions are divided there, I don't see it that way, honestly. The book comes with strong content warnings... child abuse, sexual assault, suicide, addiction, violence, murder... a little bit of everything! So be careful, because although it seems like a psychological thriller that will grab you, the themes are very intense and might not be for everyone.

Y hay que hablar de la Isla de Amberly, que no es solo un lugar donde pasa la historia, es como un personaje más, en serio.. con sus reglas raras—como que no hay pájaros, que cuidan los árboles como si fueran oro—la isla te da una vibra como de leyenda, así como que te pone los pelos de punta, y el mapa que viene en el libro, es genial, te ayuda a imaginarte esa isla aislada, a mí me encantó esa parte. Me imaginaba caminando por esos senderos llenos de neblina, sintiendo ese frío y misterio, como si estuvieras en Escocia, y los temas que toca el libro, son fuertes, se mete con el matrimonio y la venganza de una forma bien oscura y retorcida.

La relación de Grady y Abby—bueno, o la idea de Abby, que nunca sabes bien quién es—es el centro de todo, una historia donde el amor se mezcla con traición, culpa y ganas de venganza.. es duro ver cómo cada personaje, hasta los que parecen que no pintan nada, tienen un pasado oscuro lleno de dolor, mentiras y secretos que no le cuentan a nadie.. pero que tanta oscuridad no es para todos, algunos podrían sentir que este libro es propaganda "anti-hombres", así que ahí las opiniones están divididas, yo no lo veo así, la verdad. El libro viene con advertencias de contenido fuertes.. abuso infantil, agresión sexual, suicidio, adicción, violencia, asesinato… ¡de todo un poco! así que tengan cuidado, porque aunque parece un thriller psicológico que te atrapa, los temas son bien intensos y quizás no sean para todas las personas.

The end of the book feels like it was done in a hurry and, sometimes, it seems like you don't really believe it, and many questions are left unanswered... for me, that's the worst thing about "Beautiful Ugly", because after they put together all that incredible story, one expects an ending that lives up to it, do you understand? But if you like psychological thrillers, those that keep you in suspense with unexpected twists and an atmosphere that disturbs you, this book may be for you. I thought it was great to read with friends, so you can start a debate about the thousand questions and theories that the story leaves you with.

It's a book that gives you something to talk about, to discuss every detail and, above all, to get into the heads of characters as complicated and dark as Amberly Island itself. It's a thriller that, although it fails a little at the end and sometimes gets tangled up with the plot, gives you an intense and different reading experience. The bold way they play with time and how they tell you things, along with the place that catches you from the beginning, make it worth it, especially if you are looking for stories that disturb you a little and fill you with mysteries... I give it a 3.7/5 stars, more than anything because it kept me in suspense the whole time and because of the originality of the place, although I would have liked the ending to close all the ideas better... if you like psychological thrillers and you are not afraid of strong themes and twisted stories, give it a chance, it may not be perfect, but it will surely make you think, debate and feel that mix of fascination and frustration that, sometimes, you only find in the best (and worst) twists of a plot. Entre las cosas buenas, lo que más me gustó fue el ambiente raro que te crea y lo original que es la Isla de Amberly.. la forma en que te cuentan la historia, jugando con el tiempo, el lugar tan peculiar y los personajes oscuros, es una bomba que te deja pegado al libro en muchos momentos.. pero, a ver, siendo sincero, algunos giros de la trama, sobre todo al final, te dejan un sabor amargo, como de… ¿qué pasó aquí? El final del libro se siente como que lo hicieron a la carrera y, a veces, como que no te lo crees mucho, y muchas preguntas se quedan sin respuesta.. para mí, eso es lo peor de "Beautiful Ugly", porque después de que te arman toda esa historia increíble, uno espera un final que esté a la altura, ¿me entienden? Pero si a ti te gustan los thrillers psicológicos, esos que te mantienen en tensión con giros inesperados y un ambiente que te perturba, este libro puede ser para ti, a mí me pareció genial para leerlo con amigos, así pueden armar debate sobre las mil preguntas y teorías que te deja la historia.

Es un libro que te da para conversar, para discutir cada detalle y, sobre todo, para meterte en la cabeza de personajes tan complicados y oscuros como la propia Isla de Amberly.. es un thriller que, aunque falla un poco al final y a veces se vuelve enredado con la trama, te da una experiencia de lectura intensa y diferente. La forma atrevida en que juegan con el tiempo y cómo te cuentan las cosas, junto con el lugar que te atrapa desde el comienzo, hacen que valga la pena, sobre todo si buscas historias que te perturben un poco y te llenen de misterios.. le doy un 3.7/5 estrellas, más que nada porque me mantuvo en suspenso todo el tiempo y por lo original del lugar, aunque me hubiera gustado que el final cerrara mejor todas las ideas.. si te gustan los thrillers psicológicos y no te asustan los temas fuertes y las historias retorcidas, dale una oportunidad, quizás no sea perfecto, pero seguro te va a hacer pensar, debatir y sentir esa mezcla de fascinación y frustración que, a veces, solo encuentras en los mejores (y peores) giros de una trama.
