When he wakes

The accident was horrible. He heard their crying voices, and the doctors comforting the people around him. He could hear them, but he couldn't speak to them. Some days later, Jordan woke up at the hospital, and the doctors checked on him, and said he could be discharged soon. After seeing his family, a thought crossed his mind. He had been with his girlfriend when the cars collided. He looked around him, but he could not find Sarah, so he asked his parents for her, and they broke the shocking news to him.

"Sarah, can't be dead. Mom, tell me this isn't true." Jordan broke down in tears, but there was nothing any of them could do to bring back the girl. Their happiness was that he had survived the accident even after being declared brain dead by the doctor. His survival was a huge miracle.

Soon, Jordan made peace with the fact that Sarah was gone. Months went by, and he finally began to move on with his life. He got into college, and made some new friends. They were so good to him, and in no time, he hit things off with his closest female friend.
"I heard you lost your last girlfriend in an accident." Amy said to Jordan, during one of their many conversations.

"Yes. Sarah; she shouldn't have died. I wanted to protect her, but I failed." Jordan replied. The conversation made him feel sour. He hated to be reminded of Sarah, and his inability to save her from the car accident.

"I'm sorry about that. And you have to stop blaming yourself; it wasn't your fault that she couldn't make it."

"You have no idea how it feels to lose someone you swore to protect. I couldn't even attend her funeral because I was in a coma." Jordan started to break down.

Suddenly, a waitress approached them, and handed a white handkerchief to him. He accepted it, and wiped his face. Something about the waitress seemed familiar to him. He looked up to see her face, but she had already turned away from him. Amy noticed, and asked if he knew the waitress, but he wasn't sure of the response to give. After their lunch, they stood to leave the restaurant, when Jordan saw the waitress again. But this time, he recognized her, and his eyes bulged from shock.

"Sarah!" He screamed the lady's name. The waitress turned to face him, and he ran towards her. She flashed him a sad smile.

"What are you doing here? How are you here?" Jordan asked her, grabbing her arms to be sure that she was real.

Before she could respond, Jordan heard voices of people calling his name. The face of Sarah suddenly turned blurry, and the voices became clearer like the people calling his name were with him. His eyes fluttered open, and he immediately looked around his environment, only to see his parents red-eyed from a lot of crying.

"What's going on? Why am I at the hospital?" He asked, confused.

Someone shouted for the doctor to come, and Jordan looked up to see who it was. It felt like he had seen a ghost, because he immediately jumped from the bed.
"Sarah, what are you doing here?" He asked her.

"How do you mean? I've been with you since the accident."

"But you died. How's this possible?" Jordan was confused. He couldn't believe his eyes.

"Honey, you've been in coma for two days, and Sarah has been here with you. She survived the accident." His mother explained to him.

Though Jordan was happy that Sarah was alive, he was still concerned about his visions, and he wondered if there was another world where Sarah had died from the accident. He was certain that he must've traveled to another dimension, but he kept his thoughts to himself, and happily spent time with Sarah.

Life is not simple for any human being; everyone has to deal with the death of a loved one and situations unknown to them, that was also the case with Jordan when he experienced his heartbreak and thought that Sarah was gone. The moment you shared unveiled the truth of the return of faith after suffering deeply. Such an honest and moving experience, thanks for letting it out.

What a touching story. I'm happy he didn't really lose Sarah in the accident. I believe what he saw was due to the coma and his fears before he lost consciousness.

Nice story 👌

You're right...it was indeed his fears that triggered the vision

I like that twist at the end. It was all a coma dream. Sarah is alive and fine.

Maybe it was his dream, his reality is different. Education was painful that his lover died in a road accident. But later he realized that Sara was still alive. Maybe his world was different. Very beautifully written, best wishes.

I enjoyed this story. Although it's sad and moving, there's a certain air of a long awaited miracle that permeates the unsettling. Both grief and reunion are always emotions and feelings that move us. Sometimes we have to accept fate and what it has in store for us. I really enjoyed reading your story. Best regards, and have a blessed day.

The threshold between reality and dream is no little. I get that feeling of thinking something was so real but just to find out that it was just a bad dream

Being in coma is seeing yourself in another world just like Jordan did. It could only take events like this to bring him out of the coma.

The plot twist caught me by surprise. Jordan was living in a world where things were very different. The suspense of the story leaves us wondering if it was a dream or if he traveled to another reality. A very interesting story to read.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Excellent Monday.

May be their past life's was tragic but the present looks excellent and I am happy for them. An interesting piece so to speak.

There's something about the dreamworld and how it looks like reality. So all along it was a pseudo-reality playing out in his unconscious state. At least, he didn't lose Sarah. That would have been unbearable.

It's a good thing he didn't lose her.
