Into the Dreamland
Religiously, some dreams are pegged evil and bad. For instance, when a child sees him/herself inside water, it is believed that the child has undergone some kind of witchcraft initiation. Same with flying dreams, or even eating in the dream. That one is the most dreaded dreams. Even if you were to eat in a 5-star hotel, with presidential bodies, as long as it happened in the dream, and you tasted that food, automatically you've been initiated.
Growing up, one of the meals I never missed no matter how not hungry I was, is dinner. My parents believed that some ghosts or witches might come in a trustworthy form, and initiate kids with food. But we have no way of proving that.
Now, science says otherwise. It says that our dreams symbolizes our fears, and desires. For example, if someone flys in the dream, while religion will peg it as attending some spiritual coven meeting, science says it represents freedom, or breaking free from limitations, and this symbolizes the person's real desires to be free. But when the dream is bad, it could represent the person's fear of taking risks, as flying has lot's of risks attached to it.
I also came upon a theory that said dreams are just the brain's way of making sense of random signals that occur while we sleep.
There are too many theories, which may be true, or may not be true.
But in my opinion, I think our lives has already been programmed, and stored in our brain. So when we sleep, and the brain stays awake, we might get a glimpse of that life's programming.
For example, we may dream of something, and somehow it becomes a reality. This is proof that it was already meant to be, and it's probably in our brain.
Also, some of the things that happen, and we see them as deja Vu, they are just glimpses that we caught in our sleep. When we wake, we forget them, until they happen, and the body remembers to have seen it before, but the brain wouldn't process it for you to remember the exact place or time that you saw it.
Having said all these, I think the brain has an answer to why we dream when we sleep. But this is just my theory. It might be true, and it might not be true.

Dreams and how people see them varies from Individual to another.
True
Dreams can be a reflection of our desires and imaginations. Of course the spiritual and science have different interpretations, but dreams are a part of us and can reflect something more.
