Attempting the impossible

Even as a kid, Joseph loved to explore. He watched sci-fi documentaries, and even had a Celestron telescope which his parents got for him, so he could be able to observe the moon, and other bright planets at night.
Joseph's choice of hobby marveled everyone, and they all knew that he might grow up to become an astronaut.
As Joseph grew, his interests and obsession grew too. He was eager to learn everything about astronomy, and he always came top of his class. During one of the school's presentation, Joseph was asked to speak on what he'd like to achieve as an astronaut, and his response left everyone shocked.
"Scientists and Astronauts keep flying out to space, and they keep visiting the moon. But when I grow older, I'm going to break the world record, and get to the sun." Joseph had said with a massive confidence, and this stirred the crowd.
Most people took his words to be that of an ignorant child, but his teacher saw the seriousness in him, and decided to speak to his parents.
"I know what I saw in your boy, and I must say this. He's pretty much smart and intelligent, but he needs to know at this early age that the sun is a no-go. I've explained this in class so many times, but he still hasn't let go of that thought."
"Thank you. We'll watch him from now, and I'll try to persuade him against this new quest of his, though I still think it's a child's play, and he doesn't even know what he wants yet." Joseph's father replied.
Some years later, Joseph started researching about the sun. He was able to recruit a few of his friends to join in his quest, and despite the obvious signs that it was a mission impossible, he went on to make his research.
Soon, he graduated from college, and joined an astronomy firm as a research scientist. He somehow managed to convince his colleagues that there was a way to get to the sun.
"Joseph, how sure are you that your hypothesis is correct?" His boss asked him.
"Sir, I am sure. I've made my research, and this is going to work. I can assure you." Joseph replied.
After moments of arguments and considerations, the head researcher gave in to Joseph's ideas, and the whole team set to work on going to the sun. They developed rockets, and coated them with heat-resisting properties, so they can withstand the hotness of the sun. But after so many trials, none of the rockets was able to get close to the sun, and this pissed the head researcher off, so he decided to call off the program, but Joseph was still keen on achieving his goals, but no one wanted to hear him out again.
"Joseph, you've had your fair share of opportunities, and it turned out to be crappy. We invested millions into that program and there was nothing to show for it. Give it a rest. It is a mission impossible." The head researcher raged in annoyance, as Joseph tried to convince him again once again.
"Sir, we can pull this off. I have this strong feeling that we can do this. I've made a few corrections, and I know that it'll work this time. Please, trust me on this." Joseph pleaded.
"Joseph, let me ask you; have you seen anyone going to the sun before? No one has even been able to get to Mercury. Why do you think you'll make it to the sun? I can't do this anymore. The program is closed for good." The head researcher argued.
"Let's make history. No one knew it was possible to get to the moon, till someone pulled it off. If we don't try it, there'll be no way of knowing if it is possible or not, and I'm pretty sure that it is possible." Joseph was hellbent on convincing his boss, but the man made it clear to him that the ship had sailed.
"Joseph, no one is ever going to the sun, so don't sweat it, and focus on your job, unless you want to turn in an application elsewhere. And trust me, nobody is ever buying your idea of sun-travel, because it is impossible. Give it a rest, Joseph.
Joseph feeling disappointed, turned and left the office.
