A date with the dragon

Despite his handsome physique and charming features, he was still known as the cold-hearted CEO. No one knew that beneath that cold facade was a man with a heart of gold, and generosity. Mr Mike took over the family's company when it almost hit rock bottom. Thanks to him the business was revived, but he was deemed to be too strict by the employees who could never look him in the eyes. Mike had a face to die for, but no one dared to make a move on him, as his strides were enough to get them quavering with fear.

Out of all the female employees in the company, Susan caught Mike's eye. He had been in and out of so many relationships that went sour in the long run. Mike wanted a lady who would understand his person, and also cope with his cold demeanor. He decided to sit back and watch Susan closely, and also try to get accustomed to her likes and preferences without her knowledge, but watching his dream girl almost taken away from him made him push things forward, leading to an awkward experience.

Susan dressed to work looking as beautiful and tidy as always. As she relaxed on her desk, one of the male employees who was hitting on her came over to greet her.

"Hi, Suzy, you look beautiful." The young man said to her, and she smiled.

"You don't look bad yourself." Susan replied.

She looked past the employee and caught the glare shooting from Mike's eyes like lasers. She bent her head a little and reduced her voice to a whisper.
"The dragon's here, and his eyes are about to light us up. You should get going." She said to the male employee who then smiled and walked away.

Some seconds later, Susan felt like she was going to wet herself when she saw the CEO walking towards her desk. She fumbled through the files on her desk, but none of them could take away the tension that had knotted her chest.
Mike got to her desk, and tapped the table, till she raised her head to see him.

"Do you always slack off when you get to work?" Mike asked her.

"No sir, I'm sorry. I wasn't slacking off, I was just exchanging greetings." Susan replied with a shaky voice.

"Exchanging greetings all the time with a particular male. Should I be planning a wedding for you both?" He asked her again.

"No sir. I'm sorry about that, it won't happen again." Susan apologized.

"It's fine." Mike said. He dipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out a pile of cash, he dropped some of it on her desk. "Have a healthy lunch with this." He said, and walked away, leaving the confused Susan staring after him in awe.

The days that followed were confusing ones for Susan. She would come to work to see roses on her desk, and lunch packs as well, and it all came from her boss. Susan worried that he might consider taking her job away because of the past incident of slacking off. She decided to have a conversation with Mike and apologize again for slacking off on duty, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She rehearsed at home, but whenever she got to work and saw him, she would be paralyzed with fear and worry.

One day, Susan came to work and this time her desk had been changed, and roses were placed on the new table. Her colleagues were begining to notice the drama, and they bothered her with questions till she could take it no more. She walked to Mike's office and knocked, then she opened the door and walked in, but yet again, she couldn't get herself to speak.

"I'm sorry for disrupting your peace." She apologized and turned to leave, but Mike called her back.

"Don't you have something that you want to discuss with me?" He asked her.

Susan was lost for words. She stared at her shoes and bit her lips. She wished she could disappear from the company entirely so she wouldn't be found. Mike stood from his desk and came to stand in her front. He touched her face, and she quivered. He raised her head till she could stare at him, then he asked her to speak.

"I wanted to apologize for last time. You don't have to lay me off because of that. I love my job, and I'm very good at what I do." Susan stumbled on her words as she tried to explain herself.

Mike stared at her and smiled. He walked back to his seat and sat down with his legs crossed.
"How about we go over that at dinner tonight? I'll send you the time and address; don't be late." He said, and Susan left the office more worried and confused than ever.

Susan went home and called her best friend on the phone to seek her advice.
"Do you think I should turn in my resignation letter before I get fired?" She asked her friend.

"Suzy, being nice doesn't mean he wants to take away your job. He might just be interested in you." Lisa said.

"There are a lot of persons whose niceness wouldn't be a cause for alarm, but I'm bothered about Mike's niceness. He's doing too much, and it's weird and very unlike him. I can smell a rat, and trust me, it reeks badly." Susan complained.

"Well, you wouldn't know until you've had that dinner." Lisa replied.

At the dinner, Susan kept biting her lip until she bit out her blood. Mike offered her a napkin, and when she hesitated to take it, he tried to wipe the blood stain from her mouth, but she lurched back and took the napkin from him.

"Susan, I need you to be calm. I'm not here to cause you harm or uneasiness. I like you, and there was no better way of telling you this." Mike said to her, and Susan stiffened.

For the rest of the dinner, Susan worried why Mike would be interested in her. She was a bit relieved that she still had her job, and though she was ill at ease, she slowly let herself calm down, and she enjoyed the wonderful dinner with the dragon of a boss.

Sometimes the one we thought was a devil is a saint. She must enjoy her dinner after hearing the good news she was not expecting to hear.

Yeah... it's a surprising news for the boss to like her

I had such a boss. From afar, you'd think he is the worst person to work with, but when you get closer, you'd see that he is just a sweet soul. We should stop judging people by their looks

Yeah, you're right
Judging people by their looks isn't right at all

Good one from that perspective.

Sometimes looks caused misconstrue and noticed misunderstood.

Nice one from that perspective.

Have a great one.

Depending on one's perspective, this could be viewed as an abuse of power by Mike. It seems clear that Suzie is completely baffled by his behaviour, and feels ill at ease by his unsolicited advances. It was an uncomfortable read but that means that you did a good job of making us dislike Mike's character, and of placing us firmly in Suzie's shoes for the duration of the story.
