Reading and its challenges for me

I have always loved reading books of all kinds, although I have seasons when I prefer certain genres, whatever the genre I feel it is a very mentally enriching activity, but at the same time it is as simple as carrying a book in your hand to any quiet place and read, it does not require much.

During the pandemic as I had more free time than usual, I read a lot of books in digital, it seemed quite practical because the only space it took up was the storage of my phone or tablet, only there are times when reading for a long time began to bother my eyesight, and also did not have the same feeling and smell as a good physical book.

I also began to receive psychological therapy and among several things one of the recommendations to deal with my insomnia, was to avoid reading digital books at night (the time I like to read the most), some of the blue light and other things that make it much harder to sleep.

So what I did was to read a little during the day and at night I just reread the books I had in physical, this was a good option, although sometimes I wanted to read something else or even continue reading the digital book I had read during the day. On the other hand there was the option of buying physical books, as I already had some then I knew they were going to accumulate.

In the house where we live there is a lot of tendency to termites, in fact vqriosd books here were eaten by them, so buying books for me is not an option, besides that they would accumulate (something I don't like at all) they could also be damaged, plus in the area is not so easy to sell used books.

So both visual fatigue and not wanting and not being able to accumulate books at home are challenges for me, which affect my ability to fully enjoy one of my favorite hobbies, however, I still do it, just not as much as before, I limit the time I spend reading on the phone to avoid eye discomfort or headaches, and although I love physical books, it is not loving to me, nor to them (because they can be eaten by termites) to have them.

In the evenings, I read the books I already have and have learned to enjoy it, sometimes I make notes and so on, because there is always something new to see and learn from a good book.

That's a big challenge for many minimalists, indeed. However, you seem to have a light on the situation. I do find digital reading challenging on my eyes too, and I think audio books can be a great solution, especially if I find a soothing voice:)

Well it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one suffering from it. I've tried audiobooks but I have a hard time getting a good voice.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a great day.
