Favourite sports: Football and American Football

In Nigeria, the most well-known sport is football, and it is loved by many, including me. It is very rare to see people having sports like rugby as their favorite. It is not that Nigerians do not play it, we do, but among all sports, football is at the top of the list. And yes, it is my number one when it comes to favorite sports.

I love football so much that I wish I could play very well. I know how to play, but I am not a professional at it. I only enjoy playing it during leisure hours, and I do not go about it the way most male youths in my country do, especially with how they can skip meals and lecture hours just to play football.

The part I love most about football is the matches involving club teams and national teams. I do not like to play, but I love watching matches. That is the part I can skip meals for or even lie and miss lectures just to watch football matches.

Whenever I hear people, especially females who do not like football, ask me or anyone else what we love about football matches that make us so committed to them, I keep wondering because the feeling associated with football can sometimes be hard to describe in words. That is very true! It is so hard to explain how the body reacts to every moment in football. It is not just entertaining as in pleasure, I think it is satisfying too, just like food. Lol.

I support a big club among all the clubs in the world, but I cannot say which one in order not to be laughed at because they are currently sinking in the league table, and it is looking as if the god of football is against us. Apart from being a fan of that club, I enjoy all football. I just love to watch a very engaging and battle-like football match. I mean a very tough match where the grass on the field will suffer a lot. Currently, the playoffs of the Champions League are going on, and they have been entertaining, with the big clubs battling to eliminate one another.

Apart from football, the next sport I like so much, even though it is not common in Nigeria, is American football. It is almost the same as rugby. Guess why I love the sport? It is basically because of the fighting scenes. I love this sport to watch only and not to play. I cannot even imagine myself being the first to get blown, brushed, and hit all because of football, and the referees do not call for fouls as they do in normal football matches. It is the same way I love wrestling, but you will never see me thinking of engaging in it.

To be very sincere, I do not know the score counts or how the games are won in American football. All I love watching are the rough scenes that appear like fighting, even though it is football they are playing.
