Disappointment in life

Disappointment, in either case, is a very common experience in our existence on this planet Earth. In one way or another, every one of us has experienced it before and will still experience it in the future. Also, no matter how careful we try to be, we have and will still disappoint people. It is inevitable, and that is because sometimes it happens in ways we never planned.

The Time I Was Disappointed:

I have been disappointed many times to the extent that I cannot keep count. The moment I want to share is the one that came to my mind as I was writing this.

This happened earlier this year, in January 2025. I was to attend a party, but I forgot my cufflinks at my hometown when I traveled for the Christmas break. There was a neighbor I had told a day before that I would need his cufflinks to use on my shirt because I was not ready to buy a new pair. After all, cufflinks are not something I use often. He agreed and promised to give them to me the night before the day of the event. With that, I was so relaxed and never bothered to look for other means to get cufflinks.

The night before the event, I forgot to collect the cufflinks from him, but I was not worried because I knew he would be around the next day. When the day arrived, the neighbor was nowhere to be found. I did not realize that he was not around until around 10 AM when I was already dressed and ready to get the cufflinks from him. I went to his house and found it locked. I called him on the phone; it rang twice, but he did not pick up. On the next call, he ended it and then turned off his phone.

I was surprised and stranded, not knowing what to do. At that moment, sweat started coming out of my body, soaking the shirt I was wearing. Questions like "Where did he go? Why is he not picking up my calls? Why did he turn off his phone?" kept running through my mind. I looked around, but there was no other person in the neighborhood to borrow cufflinks from.

After much thought, I had no choice but to remove the outfit and wear a very casual one, one which I never thought I would wear to a party.

That night, I met him and asked why he did not answer my calls or why he turned off his phone. He did not give any reasonable explanation. He only said that he was at a family emergency meeting and that the call rang so loudly the first time, which was why he decided to put his phone on flight mode.

The Time I Disappointed Someone:

This, too, has no count, as I cannot remember all the times it happened, mainly because they were all unintentional.

There was a time I promised someone money. It was actually a small amount, but unfortunately, when the time came, I could not fulfill my promise because I ran out of cash at that particular period. I did not want to borrow just to fulfill the promise, so I pleaded with the person for not meeting up. The person smiled, but I knew he was in pain too.

Thank you!

As humans, getting disappointed is quite inevitable because people will trust are definitely going to mess up.
