Every plant you see is the result of our daily effort, patience, and love for farming. Some of our crops have already been harvested, and we’re happy to see the results of our hard work.

Hello friends! I’m back to share what’s new with our plants and harvest.

We plant many different crops on our farm so the land will not be left empty, and the rainy season is the best time to plant. There is always something growing, except during the dry season. Our plants are healthy again, and every day we can see changes as they grow. Some crops take longer, like cassava, which needs around 8 to 12 months before it is ready to harvest. It’s better to harvest cassava when it is fully mature so it becomes heavier and has more flesh. Other crops grow faster, like soybeans, which are usually ready in about 4 months.

Our plants continue to grow well, and last friday we were happy to harvest our eggplants. The string beans, opo, and okra are already displayed at my brother Jemson’s stall. This is how we make a living planting, taking care of our crops, and hoping for a good harvest. If we don’t work hard there will be nothing to harvest, so we are always thankful that each day we can get through life even if it’s not always easy. Eggplant is my favorite because you can cook it in many ways, tortang talong, salad or even just fried with a dip of sauteed ginamos or even raw ginamos with calamansi. It already feels like a complete meal when it’s freshly harvested.

Cassava really takes a long time to grow, and we can only plant it once a year because we need to wait many months before it becomes mature and ready to harvest. But our pitchy grows faster usually just a few weeks and it always looks healthy and thick, which makes us happy. Its leaves are beautiful and fresh, and it tastes so good when sauteed, especially with sardines.

Since I was a child, we always had soybeans planted at home, and until now it’s still part of our farm life. I remember before, I used to eat roasted soybeans as a snack but when I ate too much, I would start feeling dizzy, so I stopped roasting them. Before, when we didn’t have coffee, my mother would grind the soybeans and use them as a coffee substitute those simple moments are unforgettable. Soybeans usually take a few months before they’re ready to harvest but the wait is worth it because they grow well with proper care. Many people use soybeans to make taho, tofu and other healthy foods and that’s why I enjoy planting them.

Saluyot and alugbati are always fresh in our garden, and my mother really loves cooking these vegetables. She enjoys them because they’re healthy and full of nutrients. But to be honest, I’m not a fan of eating them, especially alugbati, because it feels a bit slimy for me, so I don’t enjoy it as much. Still, I’m happy to grow them because they’re easy to take care of and they always look so green and vibrant. Even if they’re not my favorite to eat, they remind me of home and of the meals my mother prepares with love.

Our corn is getting close to harvest, and we can’t wait to taste it. We check it every day because there are always many rats roaming around the field. They love eating the young corn, especially at night when they know no one is around they can be very troublesome. If people don’t steal it, the rats become our biggest problem.

We continue to pursue our dreams, which is why we never stop planting for the future of our family. As they say, where there is life, there is hope. All that is needed is hard work and patience to succeed.

I’ll end my post here. Thank you for visiting, and all the pictures you see are mine and were edited in Canva.

Thank you as well for appreciating the things I do, especially my farm life. Yes, we were still able to harvest even though many of the plants had worms, and some of our crops were damaged when the typhoon hit. I’m still thankful because we received blessings despite everything.

Thank you... I’m grateful to the Lord for the good income we received from our harvest. Even though we lost some of the eggplants at least we were still able to recover our expenses. Good night friend.
