A Day in Naga City

Hello, dear Hivers!

After the passing of Typhoons Tino and Uwan, my brother and I decided that it was finally time to go out for a little while. We had been cooped up inside the house for days because of the bad weather, and it was starting to feel suffocating. You know that feeling when you’ve been indoors for too long — your mind starts to get restless, and you just need to see the outside world again? That’s exactly how we felt. So, as soon as the weather started to calm down, we thought, why not go for a short trip?

We decided to head to Naga City, Cebu, a place not too far from where we live but always a great spot to unwind. The weather that day was just perfect — not too hot, not too cold. It was slightly gloomy, with soft gray clouds covering the sky, and a gentle breeze blowing through. It was the kind of weather that makes walking around feel relaxing and refreshing rather than tiring.

When we arrived in Naga, we started exploring the area, just walking and taking in the sights. One of the first places we visited was their Mini Bridge, a small but charming structure that offers a nice view of the water. It’s simple, but there’s something peaceful about standing there, watching the ripples move across the surface. After that, we headed to the boardwalk, one of the most popular spots in Naga. The boardwalk stretches along the coast, giving you a wide open view of the sea. The space there is huge — perfect for people who just want to relax, jog, take photos, or enjoy the sea breeze.

As we strolled along, we noticed a few people doing their own thing. Some were fishing, patiently waiting for a catch, while others were eating and chatting with their friends or families. There were also couples walking hand in hand, kids running around, and groups of friends laughing together. It was nice to see people out and about again after the storms. The whole atmosphere felt light and happy — like everyone was slowly recovering from the stress brought by the typhoons.

For me, moments like these are simple but healing. Watching people enjoy themselves, seeing the ocean waves crash gently against the shore, and feeling the wind brush against your skin — it makes you realize that even after difficult days, life still finds a way to be beautiful. Nature has a way of comforting us without saying a word.

After walking around for a while, we started to feel hungry. So, my brother and I decided it was time for dinner. We didn’t go to a fancy restaurant — instead, we opted for something more local and comforting. We found a small food stall that served street food, which is honestly one of my favorite things about going out. The smell of grilled meat, fried snacks, and savory sauces filled the air, making it impossible to resist. We ordered chicken, squid balls, pork, longganisa (sweet sausage), and of course, puso — the famous hanging rice wrapped in coconut leaves that Cebu is known for. The food was absolutely delicious. There’s something about eating simple food outdoors, after a long walk, that just makes it taste even better. Each bite felt satisfying, and we couldn’t help but smile and say, “Lami kaayo!” (So delicious!)

As we finished our meal, we noticed the clouds starting to darken again. The wind grew stronger, and we could feel tiny drops of rain beginning to fall. It looked like another round of rain was coming, so we decided it was time to head home before it got heavier. Even though our little adventure was short, it was exactly what we needed — a breath of fresh air after days of being stuck indoors.

On our way home, I felt grateful. Grateful for the calm after the storm, for the chance to spend time with my brother, and for the simple joys that life offers. Sometimes, it doesn’t take a grand vacation or a fancy destination to lift your spirits. A short walk, good company, and tasty food can already make a world of difference.

That day in Naga City reminded me how important it is to slow down, appreciate the moment, and find happiness in small things. After all, even after the strongest storms, there’s always a time for calm, laughter, and renewal.

Thank you dear Hivers for taking the time to read. See you on my next blog. Stay safe always.
