(ESP-ENG) La caída de un gigante. [Opinión]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
To think of the situation Red Bull finds itself in today in relation to the other teams was unthinkable and far-fetched just a few months ago. This team that became extremely dominant for a long time, including just a couple of years ago, now seems to be crumbling little by little. And yes, Red Bull is no longer what it used to be, that harmony and good atmosphere, a product of always seeing themselves as winners and dominant, has disappeared from the paddock almost suddenly and it shows, both in the results and in the management of the key pieces of that not so distant success.
Part of the debacle began with the departure of Adrian Newey, this masterful engineer who created some of the most impressive cars that Formula 1 has ever had, such as the RB18, RB19 and even the RB16 of 2021 with which Verstappen won his titles. This was a very hard blow because he was one of those gears for all that machinery to always be in front of all the other teams. The reasons for his departure always give rise to speculation but the reality is that he simply wanted to seek new challenges for his career and saw a good opportunity for that in Aston Martin. With Newey's departure, alarm bells went off but it was not yet time to worry.
Last year a scandal involving Christian Horner was ignited, which has nothing to do with the sport but in these times affects the image of those involved. Many were betting that this would be the reason for his departure but it was not so, he came out of the investigation with flying colors and was able to continue with his work. Clearly after something like this nothing is the same and the stain will remain, although I repeat, it has nothing to do with the competition itself. In a very surprising way last week we found out that the directors and owners of Red Bull made the decision to fire Horner, I believe, without giving any explanation. If Newey's dismissal, which was already known, was a bucket of cold water, this was like falling into the depths of an iceberg.
Horner had 20 years with RB, over 400 races, almost 300 podiums, 124 race wins, 8 world champions and 6 constructors championships, the legacy this man leaves behind is undeniable and impressive. But then, why do they leave him? - For me there are two reasons: the terrible results the team is having this season and the poor management of the second drivers. The departure of Checo was the first alarm; Lawson was a failure but it is true that they did not give him the necessary time to calm down and adapt to that complex car and now with Tsunoda they are suffering from the same thing but I think that this time they do not have a clear replacement option so I imagine they will have to “die” with him with his boots on, at least for the rest of the season.
And to close if we add the rumors that are running around the paddock we would have to talk about the future of Verstappen at RB which is not clear at all. The only one of that old school that remains is Helmut Marko and I don't know yet if he will have the influence and power to keep the Dutchman, in case the rumors are true. Max Verstappen has been linked to Mercedes, in fact this move has been rumored for a long time but it all comes to nothing, but as the famous saying goes “when the river flows...”. The reality is that RB is no longer that monster, that giant that was scary, they are no longer fighting for the top positions, not even Verstappen who is increasingly relegated and Tsunoda who is not helping much. Will this RB rise with the new faces that arrived, will we see them again competing for the lead? - Time will tell.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people, that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all of you, see you next time!
