Hace una semana todo un país estaba en una nube, toda la gente estaba conectada y con una ilusión que hacía mucho no se veía reflejada en las personas, sean o no seguidoras del fútbol o de la Vinotinto, y es que llegar a los cuartos de final no era algo nuevo para nosotros pero si la forma en cómo lo habíamos hecho. En el fútbol y en la vida uno tiene que ser humilde y cuidar lo que se dice, al final somos esclavos de nuestras palabras por lo que hay que ser muy consciente y precavido a la hora de emitir comentarios o simplemente hacer porras. Todo esto lo digo porque previo a aquel encuentro muchas personas daban por hecho nuestro pase a las semifinales; una cosa es tener fe y confianza en el equipo, otra es y repito, la humildad.

Desde ese momento ese personaje está desaparecido de las redes. Vuelvo a decir, somos esclavos de nuestras palabras. Muchos subestimaron a Canadá por lo visto en la fase de grupos, en lo personal nunca lo hice porque fue una selección que puso en aprietos a la Argentina, empataron con Chile y le ganaron a Perú. No se como muchos decidieron que ellos irían a ser goleados.

Ese partido contra Canadá fue muy complicado de ver básicamente porque los norteamericanos nos pasaron por encima, se dice y no pasa nada. Físicamente estuvieron mucho mejor, el primer tiempo fue un sufrimiento ver como nos ganaban todos los duelos y piques y que si no hubiera sido por Rafa Romo hubiésemos terminado por lo menos con un 3-0 en contra. Nuestro gol llegó producto de que Salomón Rondón es un águila y un tipo increíblemente curtido, vio una oportunidad y la aprovechó. Fue un gol que nos devolvió el aire pero que sabíamos que había que nadar mucho todavía para llegar sanos y salvo a la orilla. Al final sabemos que los penaltis pueden ser para cualquiera, si Messi y Cristiano erraron sus tiros, ¿por que achacarle eso a los nuestros? - es de las cosas más normales y crueles dentro del fútbol.

El balance general de los nuestros no es nada malo, nos fuimos invictos mostrando mejoría en muchos aspectos, las sensaciones son muy top de cara a las eliminatorias en dos meses pero tampoco podemos ser seguidores tóxicos o ciegos, ese FE desmedida que no nos deja ser críticos tenemos que quitárnosla ya que no le hace bien a nadie. Como dije que las expectativas son buenas también hay que decir que son muchas cosas las que hay que mejorar: perdemos la posesión del balón muy rápido, seguimos teniendo sombras en la defensa, muchas veces la conexión medios/extremos/delanteros no existe, entre otras cosas más. Esto no me quita la confianza plena y absoluta que le tengo al Bocha Batista y a los jugadores porque se que los primeros autocríticos son ellos mismos.

Pero entonces, ¿se le pudo haber ganado a Canadá? - yo creo que si, yo estaba convencido que si se podía pero siempre desde la cautela. Pero el fútbol es mezquino y no complace a todos. Lo bueno es que siempre da revancha y estoy seguro que tendremos la nuestra. Rafael Romo, Jon Aramburu y un rejuvenecido Salomón Rondón son las caras más notables de esta Vinotinto en esta Copa América; tenemos arquero para muchos años, un lateral derecho de altísima calidad y proyección al que espero le venga un futuro muy bueno en Europa y un Salo Rondón al que muchos quisieron retirar pero que sigue ahí demostrando que es, para algunos, el mejor jugador de esta selección, con el permiso del gran Juan Arango. En lo personal estoy muy entusiasmado con lo que se viene pero a la vez triste porque creo que pudimos haber hecho un poco más de historia. Ojalá esas ganas sean la motivación necesaria para seguir el camino que llevamos en las eliminatorias y así alcanzar el mundial del 2026.

Es cierto, ese triunfalismo por parte de la prensa deportiva venezolana, la cual es de lo peor que existe; fue de lo peor que presencié antes de la disputa de los 4tos de final.
Yo no quería ver el juego de Canadá vs. Argentina porque sabía que los actuales campeones expondrían las falencias de los canadienses y no comparo a la vinotinto con la Albiceleste, sino que Venezuela jugando mejor hubiera ganado y no descubro nada al decir esa obviedad, pero es que Venezuela jugó mal y es una lastima que se no llegara a estar entre las últimas cuatro selecciones.
El tema es que nos cuesta ser autocríticos. La Vinotinto por lo menos el primer tiempo fue un desastre total, ya lo dije pero Romo volvió a salvarnos de una goleada. Creo que ese partido a los nuestros les ganó la ansiedad y eso hizo que todo el trabajo se fuera por la borda. Una lastima, ese juego contra Argentina hubiera estado super interesante de cara a las eliminatorias.
