MUSIC: Three Tune Tuesday 145 (ENG/ESP) - 3 Songs on the Theme of “Asian Culture” (Hive Open Mic Week 204)
Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from a small ski resort village in the French Alps (rather than my normal home in Cape Town, South Africa)!
Welcome to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 145 overall! My current pattern for how I will be contributing to TTT is to take the Hive Open Mic challenge Theme of the Week and give suggestions on how I would tackle it!
For those of you who are not familiar, the Hive Open Mic is a weekly challenge on the Hive Open Mic community for anybody who loves to sing. You don’t even need to play an instrument, a backing track or a cappella is also fine as far as I can tell!
Different artists are given the chance to choose a “Theme of the Week” that the posts should be based on. Often it can be difficult for people to think about easy songs that might fit that theme… so let me see if I can be of any assistance to the people who still might not know what to try by the time Tuesday comes around!
All right! Let’s get cracking!
Here is the post inviting everyone to participate in this week’s Hive Open Mic (Week 204):

It was the turn of @victoriakim21 to pick a theme, and this week the theme is “Asian Culture”.
SONG NUMBER 1
“Kung Fu Fighting” – Carl Douglas
As most of us know, Kung Fu is a term that encompasses a wide range of martial arts styles from China. I’ve had some classes in wing chun, Tai Chi and 7-star mantis styles myself.
What version of this song do you remember best? The original from 1974?
Carl Douglas returning to do the chorus on the Bus Stop version from 1998? (This is probably the version I recognise best?)
Or perhaps you only know the version that was used for the “Kung Fu Panda” movie, sung by Ceelo Green and the star of the movie Jack Black, who does sing brilliantly whenever he gets the chance it seems! I love the Kung Fu Panda movie, as it really seemed to pay homage to all sorts of classic Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movie… the Furious Five reminds me of “The Five Deadly Venoms”, but also paying tribute to actual styles of Kung Fu including Crane and Mantis styles…
SONG NUMBER 2
“Big In Japan” - Alphaville
As soon as I heard the theme, the chorus of this song started playing in my head. I think I learnt the chords when I was a kid… I wonder if I could work them out again?
SONG NUMBER 3
“Pokemon Theme (Gotta Catch ‘em All!) – Jason Paige
Most Anime originates from Japan, and Pokemon is no different. How many of us grew up as kids recognising this wonderful theme tune?
Are you struggling to imagine how to cover that? Perhaps these awesome cats can blow you away with their acoustic version!
So that's week 145 done and dusted! I hope that gave some people some ideas on how to tackle the Hive Open Mic Challenge this week? Perhaps I’ve even inspired one or two new people to give it a try? Please let me know!

“Big in Japan” - Alphaville
Me pregunto si podría volver a tocarlos.
CANCIÓN NÚMERO 3
“Tema de Pokémon (Gotta Catch ‘em All) – Jason Paige
The Jack Black version of Kung Fu fighting is pretty cool, I really loved that film too. Although I wasnt a Pokemon fan back in the day, I know the theme tune quite well. It's a classic. There are some classic manga tunes around like from Attack on Titan that I love. Thanks for sharing, Im sure it will inspire some people.
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!

It's a pretty bonkers concept for a song - I suppose Bruce Lee had just become known to the Western World or it would have been even more crazy?
Totally bonkers, start up of movies with that concept at the time. Children loved it!
My favourite Bruce Lee movie is the 1973 "Way of the Dragon" which was before the more Hollywood "Enter the Dragon" that probably introduced him to the West in 1974, just before he unfortunately died.
"Way of the Dragon" actually had Chuck Norris as the ultimate mercenary to defeat! Even then, Chuck wasn't incredibly young - probably already in his 30's!
My sons were watching them in the late 80's I cannot remember all of them, they appeared to come and go over the years.
I think Kung Fu movies peaked in 1978!! (Two of Jackie Chan's early masterpieces "Drunken Master" and "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow", as well as legends from the Shaw Brothers Studios... "36 Chambers of Shaolin", "Dirty Ho" and "Heroes of the East"! Get your sons to find those and enjoy them together! Hahaha!
I will have to let the one know, he is still crazy about watching those shows.
like that pokemon cover 😆
So do I man! That guy's voice has been compared to Jack Black - and there's a cute video of Jack Black discovering them and enjoying their energy!
