Salon-Free Hairstyling In The Comfort Of My Own Room

Many ladies are into getting new looks to showcase their unique styles and personalities or keep up with the trends. For some ladies, it helps them boost their confidence and be comfortable in their own skin with whatever they do. I admire them for that because not all ladies have the confidence to change their styles or go with the trends. For some ladies like me, it is somehow uncomfortable to face people whenever I make changes in my style.

In six years of living abroad, I have never been into a salon, nor let other people cut my hair. As much as possible, I just want to keep it long. It's one of the body parts that I consider precious, so whenever I want a makeover, I'll cut it with my scissors, or do different styles on my own. This also helps me save money for the salon visit, which is really costly here in HK.

Before the new year arrived, I considered getting a different hairstyle to see what other looks would work better for me. Since I had never curled my hair before, I gave it a go, and I liked the result. Like the recent HivePh prompt #NewYearNewMe, I want to envision my New Me as someone capable of change with a more positive outlook in life. It isn't always a bad thing to venture outside of our comfort zones, and try something new because life can be boring at times. I believed it would even give me more self-confidence, and enable me to blend in with the crowd.

Compared to previous years, I've noticed that I've been more socialized recently. I began to enjoy socializing with new people and engaging in leisure activities with them. That, I suppose, is an improvement, and a good step toward becoming the New Me I want to be on the social and personal aspects. The introverted me also want positive changes, and the opportunity to enjoy life beyond my comfort zone.

It could be true that women feel more confident when they have a nice hairstyle. It works for me occasionally. My long hair gives me the versatility to have it tied up, straight, curled, or wavy. That must be a benefit of having long hair. I've been considering getting bangs again recently to see whether it suits me. Though, I knew I would end up regretting the outcome, I decided to give it a try because I believed it would grow swiftly. In addition, if ever I dislike it, I can just clip it behind. I anticipated that it would either make me look younger or older 😂, but it doesn't matter.

It was a quite stressful cut because I made the mistake of cutting it unevenly. By that time, I was disappointed already, so I only cut a small portion which made my bangs look parted, 😆 . My sister is my worst critic, so I showed her this and asked whether it suits me. As she put it, if my hair is still thicker, it will suits me more. Yep, it saddens me to see my hair becoming thinner here abroad — likely as a result of using a heater when bathing. I missed my thick long hair.

Since it had been a few months since I had cut my long hair, I also did so. Although the result of putting some bangs wasn't that good, it wasn't bad either, I guess 😅.

It's much more enjoyable to pamper myself in the comfort of my own room than it is to visit any salon here. I don't have to feel humiliated by the result or criticize myself afterward, lol. Curling my hair isn't hard as well. I just need to braid my hair for a duration of time. An overly easy method. It will be restored after bathing. I don't want to make it permanent, though.

I've never had curly hair with bangs before. It brought back memories of my elementary school days. For many years, my mother was my hairstylist, and she enjoyed covering my forehead with bangs. I had my hair styled exactly like Dora the Explorer when I was in elementary school. And at thirty-five, I curled my hair.

Sometimes it's fun doing something new and different. But it's more fun to think that we can actually change our physical attributes and personal outlook by starting with a simple step.
