RE: My dear friend Polanco - Thoughts about Hollow and true Wealth

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

So many focus on material wealth to the detriment of relationships, their personal health, and morality. It does indeed seem unfair, but like you said, we do not know their inner dialogue, their soul. You mentioned at the start how hard some people work to determine what is right versus what is convenient.

"Keeping up with the Joneses" is hardly a new phenomenon, but social media puts our pride and vanity on display for the world to see. This also helps us build a collective illusion of happiness which I suspect makes people already struggling with self-image even more self-conscious, leading to even more self-destructive behavior for many.

Storing up treasure in heaven, or at least in building a real community based on deep relationships, can't be forced. The people who do that instead of seeking personal wealth or power are a rare breed. It's a shame it sees little earthly reward though.

I think my friend Carlos left such a powerful example to his children, that in a way, he will live on for generations. I can't imagine it going any other way.
