RE: The Inevitability of Taxes
You are viewing a single comment's thread:
The federal income tax started as a millionaire tax.
Roads are supposed to be covered by the taxes built into every gallon of fuel we buy. We had roads and pridges long before an income tax, often funded privately.
Schools are broken, and should be funded voluntarily or not at all. The US education system need to be decentralized to the state level at a bare minimum. Property taxes currently funding education are still deeply destructive, too.
The fact that necessary services are presently funded by taxation proves neither that it is the best way to find those services, not that it is even remotely efficient. And all the welfare and subsidies are smoke and mirrors to glide massive redistribution to the politically-connected.
And don't forget, war is impossible without funding. Between war and servicing the debt they accrued in spite of taxation, it's impossible to break free without restructuring everything.
