Market Friday - Having Lunch in the Bush!

Today is #MarketFriday, a project initiated by @dswigle, and this post is my contribution to this project for this week.

To learn more about this project and participate, visit today's post by @dswigle.

I have no idea what happened to the last weekend...? Did we have a weekend...lol?

Okay, we had a busy weekend, and when that happens it sometimes feels like you are still waiting for the weekend to begin...and then it's already over...

But no problem... I would still like to share with you what I have in mind for the foreseeable future.

Yes, even though we didn't get out for some photos last weekend, it doesn't mean my mind wasn't out there...lol.

Giba Gorge.

Yes, I've been to Giba Gorge before, but I would like to go again. I did a post about Giba Gorge where I shared some photos about 9 months ago. I consider an outing to Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park as fitting for #MarketFriday seeing that there is an entrance fee involved to enter. Once inside, you can also take part in other activities!

Today I will share some of the photos that I haven't shared yet.

Also, during that visit to Giba Gorge, I was alone. So, I still need to take my wife out there.

There are three Giba Gorge venues in our area:

  • Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park.
  • Giba Gorge Nature Reserve.
  • Giba Gorge Environmental Precinct and Trail.

I went to Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park as there are also hiking trails and a nice waterfall to visit. It's 8 KM from where we live and it's about 13 minute drive to get there.

The last few kilometers you are driving on a sand road, but it's in quite a good condition.

Let's start talking money...

At the time of writing, the exchange rate is R19.33 to $1.00.

The entrance fee to enter the park is R20.00 ($1.03) per person.

DSC_3212-2.jpg

Once inside the park, there are various hiking trails at no extra cost. Once you are inside, you can spend as much time as you want inside the park. I chose a 5 KM (one-way) hiking trail to the waterfall.

But on our next visit, when I take my wife there, I would like to spend some money inside the park as well.

There are various activities that you can spend money on...from (of course) mountain biking with various mountain bike trails, to a BMX course, to horse riding.

From the parking area, the BMX course is one of the first things that draws your attention.

Safety is very important!

But, what I have in mind for our next visit is to take my wife on one of the hiking trails and then visit one of the restaurants in the park. There are two restaurants that I saw from the hiking trail I followed, so we will probably end up going twice...lol.

The first restaurant is in the main area, just below the reception office. Below the restaurant is a large park where you can stroll around, sit down to relax, have a picnic, or let the kids enjoy themselves in the playing areas...

DSC_3037.jpg

Just before leaving the main area and going on the trail, I walked past the park and then turned around to take this photo of the park with the restaurant in the background.

DSC_3040.jpg

Then I was off to the waterfall...

O the trail, about halfway to the waterfall, the second restaurant is to the left, just across the little river.

I first went to the waterfall and took this photo on my way back, approaching the little bridge where you can cross the river to get to the restaurant.

DSC_3173.jpg

Zooming out a bit to get the bigger picture.

DSC_3174.jpg

In the photo above, you can see some blue to the left in the photo... It is a gazebo with some cold drinks and snacks that you can buy while passing by if you don't want to cross over to the restaurant for a meal.

Taking a closer look at the guy with the gazebo...

All the debris behind the guy is from the floods we had. We had severe floods in our area just a few months before I took these photos.

DSC_3179.jpg

Just behind this guy, you can pass the little river, using the bridge to get to the restaurant. You can see some umbrellas in the garden in front of the restaurant too.

DSC_3178.jpg

Even though it looks like a little stream that is running through this area now, in the photo above, you can see how wide and deep the river can become when the water comes flooding down.

The restaurant in these last photos above is the one I want to visit first. It's out in the bush. Away from the hustle and bustle. It's peaceful and quiet. I would love to sit down and have a meal here soon.

And that's all for today folks!

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!

A wonderful place to spend time or enjoy some free time.

Looks like you have a lot of plans in your head during your next visit with your wife :) Does she know about it yet?

I thought this post would be about buying something with or spending money in the traditional marketplaces!

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful images :)

This would be a great visit with both of you doing it together. I like being far away from life, how nice to have that not too far from where you are. There are times that a city is fun, but, a totally different kind. The entry fee is affordable enough and it is a carefree type of biking.

They even thought of the kids! Their space looks pretty nice. How many times have you come out here? I really like the restaurant in the bush! What an experience that would be, the relative peace and quiet. The river really has some range in height! Yikes. I can only imagine the river's rage when there was flooding a couple of months ago! Not hard to imagine those images in your view. I hope you had a great time! It will be even better with your wife! :))

Thanks for taking us along!!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Yes, I also think it would be great if we would be doing it together! We both love nature and as you so accurately say... "away from life"!

You won't believe me...the day I took these photos was the first time I visited the Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park. When I was a youngster and even well into my twenties, I was a passionate cyclist. But after getting married, cycling kind of faded away as my wife is not all that keen on cycling...hahaha. She loves nature...so do I! She loves walking and hiking...so do I! She loves the ocean...so do I! And we love doing things together...lol! So guess what happened, we started doing things together that we both love...

So, we were aware of the Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park, so we associated it with biking and never really paid more attention.

On this particular day though, my wife was feeling tired. And while I wanted to go out and get some photos, she said she would wait at home while I go out. It felt a bit awkward, but she insisted. So I thought to myself... "Let's go see what this Mountain Bike Park is like". It's also funny how the places closest to you are the last to be explored, isn't it? And what a pleasant surprise! So yes, we will most definitely pay more frequent visits to the park from now on...LOL!

But yes, I had a great time and it will even be better when my wife goes with me next time!

And thank you for the nice Hive tip, @dswigle! I really do appreciate it!

The first time?? I don't believe you!! Kidding, yes I do! I actually know that for a fact myself. Something so close, you will be sure to go, until you never do.

Silly, isn't it? Those should be the first places we go! And yet... It happens all the time.

I am glad that she will be going with you. You will have to compare the trips. ;)

It is always a pleasure. My little bitty tip is just that. Little bitty, but, they are fun to give and even nicer when they are appreciated!

Have a fabulous Thursday!

Haha...yes. Isn't it the we approach all things in life? We tend to overcomplicate things. The answer cannot be that easy, it has to be complicated...and then we stand speechless when someone else makes a huge success with the simplest of simple ideas...

It's the same with these places. You never expect such a beautiful place to be so close to you. The beautiful places and the nice places always have to be far away from where you live, so that's where you start searching...far away! And then, one day, you discover the jewel that was right under your nose the whole time...lol!

You might consider it to be little bitty...but I believe every little bitty eventually adds up to much! I do appreciate it! Thank you!
