5 Things To Do and See in Point, Durban.

We love going to Durban Point. It's a newly developed area in Durban at the southern end of the city and right by the entrance to Durban Harbor.

Over time we have paid several visits to this area and I have shared some photos with you in my posts.

For today, I thought it might be a good idea to have a look at the area and show you what you can see, do, and enjoy in this relatively small area.

Ushaka Marine World.

If you take a walk on the promenade all along the beachfront of Durban and you get to the southern end, you will find Ushaka Marine World.

According to Wikipedia, "Ushaka Marine World is a 16-hectare (40-acre) theme park that opened on 30 April 2004 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It has a total capacity of 4.6 million gallons containing 10,000 animal species".

According to Ushaka Maine World's own website, ushakamarine.com, their Sea World aquarium is the largest aquarium in the southern hemisphere. This information can be found in the "Rates and Times" section of their website.

Point Beach.

Ushaka Marine World is also right at the entry point where you get access to Point Beach.

On the beach, it is often a hive of activity. The upper (northern) half of the beach is normally filled with people relaxing in the sun on the beach and swimming, while the lower part of the beach is used by boat owners to launch their boats into the water.

Point Beach is located right next to the channel where boats and ships go in and out of the harbor.

Often you can watch the big ships maneuvering in and out of the harbor.

For the next photo, I was standing a bit higher up along the channel, away from the beach.

On Point Waterfront.

As you leave the beach, moving away from the beach toward the harbor, there is a lovely entertainment area, called "On Point Waterfront".

On Point Waterfront is located on the channel that forms the entry to the harbor...

If you choose to be seated outside, you can also enjoy the activity on the water with the traffic coming in and out of the harbor.

Inside you have a variety of choices...

From beer tasting...

...to ordering a pizza or any other meal from any one of the multitude of coffee shops or restaurants/take-away outlets inside.

Boat Rides on the Canals.

Then, leaving On Point Waterfront, and going to the center of Point, you'll find some beautiful canals. Here, Zulumoon Gondolas offers you the opportunity to go on some nice canal cruises.

You have the option of either going on a paddle boat, going wherever you want for up to an hour...or being taken on a cruise in a gondola boat for 30 minutes...

...or, bigger groups or families, can be taken out for a cruise on bigger boats.

If you just want to go for a walk, there is plenty of space available to sit down and relax all along the canals with beautiful views of the canals as the boats are peacefully cruising by.

Beautiful Architecture.

Before we leave the canals...

Point also features some very interesting architecture. Many of these buildings surround the canals and can be seen while cruising through the canals.

Then, moving to the "outskirts" to the opposite side of the beach...

You get a mixture of old and modern architecture.

Let's start with the old.

Robson's Brewery offers you from beer tasting to a menu of delicious meals to enjoy!

Next to them is Bike and Bean's BISTRO. According to their website, "The beautifully restored, historic shed is an A-Category listed building built around 1900, that has been used for various commercial purposes since then."

In the next photo, at the time when I took this photo, the name of Bike and Bean's BISTRO did not appear on the building yet. But we have paid them a visit recently and their name is up and clearly visible now. We will definitely pay them more visits in the future! The BISTRO is the building in the center.

Then next to the BISTRO, is Trade Like SOLOMON, a shipping company.

Next to Trade Like SOLOMON, you can find everything you need for your fishing activities.

Looking further up the road...

And from where I stood to get the shots of this architecture from yesteryear... Right behind me, across the road from these buildings, was the new passenger terminal at Durban Harbor, displaying unique, modern architecture.

Facing the buildings with the old architecture again, moving down 2 blocks, we find the Head Office of THE LION MATCH COMPANY.

I think this should give you a fairly good idea of what you can expect to see, find, and do in Point, Durban.

It is a relatively small area and to put everything in perspective, you can plot all the information on the screenshot of Google Maps which I will include below. On this map, you can also clearly see where the canals are located.

And to end this post, just to make it more interesting, let's add the layers on Google Maps...

And that's all for today, folks!

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!
