“The star in you will only glow when you add up a little study to what you already have, all you need to do is to just have notes copied from lessons you received that will aid and boost your IQ.”

This is advice from our school father (someone who takes care of you while in school) to Ebuka, one of my school mates who doesn't give much attention to study but he will still emerge as one of the best students at the end of every session in school.

This came up after a series of questions asked from random subjects just to test his knowledge before we go in for our Terminal exams. We usually do this whenever it is close to exams. We go to read our books for the term and some random questions will be asked. This is just to ensure that we are ready for our exams.

Reading of books that's for those that even have the books to read on the other hand ebuka never had a note as he resumes with new notes every term but end up with no note at the end of the term how this guy does it i don't know but i am sure that this guy is a good example of what genius is.

He only walks into class with his hands in his pocket, listens to teachers and when the bell goes off we all walk back to the hostel. He never stresses himself with copying notes, not to even talk of reading them.

Even those who copy their notes up to date still struggle to Pass our exams. We study to show ourselves approved but we end up not getting up to that stage Ebuka is.

Ebuka’s mum will always complain about her son to us, we tried to influence him in our own little way but it wouldn't just work with the guy. He was not willing to make it happen as he loved his kind of lifestyle.

How can one keep in his memory what he heard from class without going through a note and still pass his exams with good grades.

Ebuka is just a star in his field but a star hidden by the cloud since he will not be recognised by the school authority and this is simply because his level of seriousness is nothing to talk of as he is always by himself.

Even though he is with us but never engages much with us when it comes to studies.

If only he would do that I believe this boy will jot only be known in the school but the whole of the state would come to recognize this boy he would have been a star light that every other students will look up too and we would have been proud to have him as oir friend as his light will have no option than to shine on ours there by making us even brighter than we were then.

A powerful star that refused to shine the universe he chose to give light just within himself.

But then I have failed to figure out why he chose to act that way.

Could it be an act of laziness?

How nice! Ebuka has a learning style that works best for him, and it's one that doesn't align with the expectations of the school system, his friends, parents and teachers.

Or maybe I should brag a little.
I was like Ebuka when I was schooling, I only go to book with 2A(20 leaves exercise book), I fold it and put in my pocket and walk to school like someone going to see a friend😅.
At the end, things work out well with result and I don't sort lecturers😎

You ask a good question, @iyimoga, "Could it be laziness?" Maybe the problem is not with the child but with the work. It seems the work does not challenge this student. He can do well without studying. He may be a genius. Maybe a genius should be given work that matches his ability.

You describe the conflict well in this piece. There does not seem to be an easy resolution. Ebuka is not motivated, and nothing the school does motivates him. The blame is placed on Ebuka. Perhaps the school should look at itself for failing to provide a curriculum that could interest this boy.

Thank you for sharing this interesting character profile with us, @iyimoga.

These are the kind of people I admire, not too much stress in being the best. He might actually have his stuff all planned out without your knowledge.

Maybe he just doesn't have interest in shining throughout the state😂😂

Going to school might just be a hassle for him..

There is an Ebuka in every class. They come to class late, sit at the back of the class and make a hell of noise when there is no teacher in the class. They are always looking for who to play with them and never ready to study but somehow manages to ace the exams. I remember a few I had back then in school and they are doing so well now.
