True Meaning Of Success

How do you define success?

The term “success” means different things to different people, hence, the diverse definitions attached to it. What I may attribute as success based on my perception, values, and beliefs may be different from what some other person may perceive as one.

But then, success generally could be said to be the accomplishment of a goal, dream, or purpose.

Talking about my definition of success, it’s beyond financial or material achievements, even though that's the common standard to which public opinion measures it. That is not to say those are bad or not part of success. They are, but not all there is.

For instance, if I have been struggling with a particular bad habit for years, every effort to have dropped it has proved abortive. If eventually I put in extra measures to stop it and I did, that is success.

As a teacher, if I help my students with bad handwriting, bad morals ,poor reading skills, or low academy performance,etc. improve in their areas of weakness and perform much better than they were, that is success.

A person who needs to lose some weight by cutting down some calories and letting go of some unhealthy practices is a success if he/she goes through the pain of depriving him/herself of certain pleasures to achieve that aim.

If I'm in the habit of procrastinating, always late on appointments and functions and I happen to discipline myself, improve and become someone who's punctual at all times, that's the achievement of personal development, it is success.

Success encompasses all those and more, though it may not be seen as such due to the fact that a lot of people consider it to be “little things that do not necessarily speak loud”.

Depriving oneself of some personal pleasures to achieve a goal, breaking free from some addiction or unhealthy practices to improve one's health or attaining some heights in one's career are all successes. Success is beyond financial freedom.
