when a plant blooms purple, or is it?
it has been years since i groomed some plants. it actually started when a friend of mine attended an it convention and brought home some succulents as souvenirs. yes, i found that strange as well how a rather robotic unanimated stoic type of convention gave out greens. probably to have some live decors on their desks meant to be adored once the eyes get tired from staring at a computer screen, i don't know. i am trying to make sense of it. but, i took care of those plants and bought some more to give some color and life to my unanimated stoic room.
sorry if i babbled much without even describing what a succulent is. succulents are those types of plants which have some mechanism to store water in its body, just like cacti and aloes. most have fleshy leaves and some even have hairs to minimize evaporation. these plants needs less maintenance, perfect for the busy it engineers i suppose.
this image below was taken when one of those well loved plantaes decided to share more colors.
like a doting parent, i immediately snapped lots of pictures of it. it is something to be proud of, something to share. and i am finally sharing it for the world to see. if only my cellphone had a better macro lens i would have taken an even closer look at those yellow filaments too.
to be honest, i really don't know whether this is a purple one. as a colorblind person, distinguishing purples from blues and violets and even some bright pinks are very difficult. i had a conversation with @duskobgd about this and he said:
There is a whole theory about violet and purple 🙂
violet is a spectral color and purple is derived from red and blue...
Now if I understood correctly, violet has more blue and purple has more red...
i am quoting him on that but that kind of makes sense.
but even so, identifying that color is still challenging for me. so i asked some of my friend if this flower is purple. surprisingly, they also could not tell. it is a color straddling between purple and pink, he said. straddling is good enough for me, i would rather share this moment of something precious to me than of any random objects. ain't she lovely? the flower just popped amidst all of these greens.
in the philippines, we have coined a term for those people who loves taking care of plants. the term came to be during the pandemic days when everyone was stuck inside their houses and all sorts of home hobbies emerged. we call them plantitos or plantitas, titos (uncles) and titas (aunties) of plants. this post just made me a certified plantito, a proud one!
hope you had a wonderful dive into this part of my life.
as always, stay safe!
AMPING KANUNAY!
ps: succulents come in all shapes and sizes. but i actually do not know the name of this specific species so i hope someone can id them for me as well.

My dear friend, judging from the fact that the two ladies gave me confirmation of the color purple, it seems to me that you have made the same mistake as I did. we missed the colors 😀
But I hope friendlymoose won't disqualify us because of that 😀
oh my! purple is such a hard shade. oh well, there is always a next time.
and i enjoyed writing the entry so it is perfectly fine.
something to laugh about then.

The plants are beautiful! I haven't seen cactus in a long while, as they are more common in the Northern part of my country where the weather is very dry.
my babies are saying there thanks.
do you take care of any sort of plant too?
