Celebrating virtue
We live in a society where vices are condemned vocally and failures are talked about loudly.
However, I believe that as much as we condenm vices we must also commend virtue.
People should celebrate their little effort but shouldn't allow it get so much into their head as it can bring a feeling of complacency.
I make it an attitude to celebrate and commend myself and people when some level of achievements is attained, while pressing for a higher level.
Growing up as a student in secondary school,
Mathematics wasn't an easy subject for me I really struggled to comprehend every bit of it. Perhaps the teacher didn't present the subject in an interesting manner which made me develop an apathy for the subject. Also, my primary knowledge of the subject wasn't so good.
Due to certain family challenges, we had to relocate from to a new town to start life as a family. This movement affected me psychologically and educationally due to a change of school. In the course of gaining admission to a new school, I was advised to skip a class due to age and financial reasons.
It was difficult to flow at the same pace with with the other students. I had to put in extra efforts and time, yet there was no significant change, but of course it was an important and compulsory subject. Getting a credit in mathematics was a requisite for promotion to a new class. So regardless of my apathy for the subject, I needed to pass it.
I struggled through the various terms and years to just narrowly escape failure.
I wasn't satisfied deep down with my performance in the subject, I was concerned and my parents were equally concerned because I wanted to either become an engineer or study science related course in the university.
Writing my final certificate examination in secondary school was very challenging. Fear gripped me deeply because I needed to clear all my papers with good grades in order to gain admission into to the university.
My parents encouraged me by all means and supported me immensely by providing a teacher for home tutoring. I seriously took advantage of the opportunity to adequately prepare.
I was so determined to make it. My reading culture changed for good, I spent more time solving mathematics, I reduced my sleep time.
Everyone saw the passion and personal determination i displayed to succeed and they gave me their full support. The change of attitude and reading culture I developed is a virtue my Parents and siblings still commend me for up until today.
And sometimes they use me as a case study to encourage other children around.
Summary of the story, I made it with good grades, got admission to study Physics, A course that required so much of mathematical tools.
I made it through the university and today I am a physicist.
With God, resilience and determination, success is attainable.
