The long adage are often used to coerce a person unto submission when things beyond the norms happens, like the hand that fed you now is holding your neck down, you have to do something.
Everyone needs a helper in one way or the other. Doesn’t mean you should forget your self dignity and welcome humiliation of any kind.

That was exactly my thought, and this is nothing but guilt-trick, and emotional blackmail. I detest those who act that way. Arrghh!
