Alvarigua Coffee Review

Portada-m.jpg

The possibilities of finding a good coffee are endless.

Recently my wife and I went downtown for a bank transaction. She had to update some data, and believe it or not, the procedure had to be done in person at the bank's offices; other banks offer the possibility of making these updates online, but not this one. Besides, these people don't allow companions to be inside the office either, they force you to wait outside in the heat of my city.

But I've learned to take it easy with this kind of thing, so while I was waiting I went for a walk around. On occasions like that I always take the opportunity to take some pictures and find out if there is anything new like businesses I haven't seen, facade remodeling and the like.

On the way I came across a small supermarket unknown to me, I was surprised at how well stocked it was. I walked around a few times and went to the section where they offer coffee, here my surprise was greater because they had several brands that I had not seen in other supermarkets in the city.

While I was checking the shelf a lady approached me to ask me for a recommendation of a good brand. I told her that I had recently tried a new one and had reviewed it. The lady was interested in the review and I took the opportunity to tell her about my activity in HIVE.

One of the saleswomen came over and confirmed to the lady that my recommendation was correct. The three of us began a pleasant conversation about different brands of coffee.

I took advantage of the saleswoman's enthusiasm and asked her about one that had caught my attention because of its attractive packaging, the "Alvarigua" coffee. She told me that the coffee was good but that she did not like it because it left a lot of residue in the cup. According to her this was due to the fact that it was too coarse in the grinding process.

I thanked her for her comment, took a 200 gram package and went back to look for my wife.

A few days later I had the opportunity to try the new coffee, I asked my wife to take the first shot pouring the ground coffee directly from the package, so that it would not mix with any residue that remained in the container where we kept the coffee.

In this opportunity I used the same procedures that I have described in the publications of other reviews, the same amount of coffee and the same type of water, the one that we drink frequently in my house. I have yet to do some tests with filtered water to see if it really tastes different.

After a few minutes the aroma spread throughout the kitchen, I felt in this smell a certain sweet tone, actually I found it very pleasant. I told my wife about it and she also noticed this very special aroma.

When pouring the coffee the color looked very intense. My wife decided to soften hers with a little hot water, but mine was left as it came out of the pot.

I tasted both, first mine, without sugar, as always when I do these tests. I liked the result very much, I could really appreciate a very delicate and balanced flavor. And although it was quite strong, it did not feel bitter at all. Then I tasted my wife's coffee, milder and with a little sugar, and I thought it was very good. Our conclusion is that the coffee is very yielding.

Before finishing my cup I remembered the saleswoman's remark about the residue. And indeed the bottom of the cup showed more residue than other times. My wife's conclusion was that the coffee was too fine for the coffee maker.

Then it occurred to me to do a test and I heated a cup of water with a spoonful of coffee, making sure that the mixture did not boil. Then I poured it into the brewing bag. With this way of preparing it, it kept the same flavor and the residues in the cup decreased.

The presence of residues is not really important to me, what I do care about is the aroma and flavor of the coffee. And in this case I recommend that you try this coffee produced in the Portuguesa area of Venezuela. The slogan of the advertisers was very accurate: "the coffee that makes you fall in love".

Thank you for your time.
