Memories of the Colonial Theater of Carora

Saludos a todos, hace algunos días estaba haciendo revisión de los pocos archivos que pude conservar de mi antigua computadora y me encontré con algunas fotografías importantes, lo más curioso es que casi había olvidado por completo que había tomado dichas fotos en el año 2016, se trata de la fachada del Teatro Colonial de Carora (Lara-Venezuela), es decir mi ciudad, este lugar funcionaba como el cine, teniendo una sala pequeña pero de un estilo muy bonito, pues precisamente como su nombre lo indica la estructura es una casa que se encuentra en la zona Colonial, precisamente en la calle El Calvario, a pocos metros de la Plaza Bolívar y de la capilla El Calvario que es importante por su estructura arquitectónica y valor patrimonial, sin embargo dicha sala de cine había dejado de funcionar varios años antes de tomar dicha foto.

Greetings everyone, a few days ago I was reviewing the few files that I was able to keep from my old computer and I found some important photographs, the most curious thing is that I had almost completely forgotten that I had taken these photos in 2016, it is about the facade of the Colonial Theater of Carora (Lara-Venezuela), that is, my city, this place functioned as a cinema, having a small room but with a very nice style, because precisely as its name indicates the structure is a house that is located in the Colonial zone, precisely on El Calvario street, a few meters from Plaza Bolívar and the El Calvario chapel, which is important for its architectural structure and heritage value, however, said movie theater had stopped working several years before taking that photo.

Estuve investigando por la web y lamentablemente no encontré información acerca del año en que se abrió dicha sala y tampoco del año del cierre, pero mi recuerdo más lejano es haber visto (o mejor ducho dormido porque yo estaba muy pequeña) la película animada de Alladín y esa se estrenó en 1992, en cuanto al cierre tampoco tengo información solo escuché el rumor que fue debido a la crisis económica y la poca afluencia de personas debido a que la zona donde se encuentra es muy solitaria por las noches, pero realmente no se si esos son los verdaderos factores, en mi recuerdos esta la última vez que vi una película allí con mi amigos fue en año 2011, la película fue La invención de Hugo, lamentablemente desde que esa sala de cine cerró no ha habido más cine en Carora, lo que cual me parece muy triste, por otro lado, al momento de tomar estas fotografía y asomar mi cabeza por los vidrios quebrados de la fachadas aún se podían observar algunos de los carteles de películas que estaban allí, si mi memoria no falla vi un cartel de al película del agente 007, pero no recuerdo cual así que investigue por web y me di cuenta que hay una del 2012 y una den 2015, así que posiblemente uno de esos años fue el cierre del cine pero no puedo asegurarlo, es solo lo que yo sospecho.

I was searching on the web and unfortunately I didn’t find any information about the year the room opened or the year it closed, but my earliest memory is having seen (or rather slept through because I was very young) the animated movie Alladin and that was released in 1992, as for the closing I also have no information I only heard the rumor that it was due to the economic crisis and the low influx of people because the area where it is located is very lonely at night, but I really don’t know if those are the real factors, in my memories is the last time I saw a movie there with my friends was in 2011, the movie was Hugo, unfortunately since that movie theater closed there has been no more cinema in Carora, which I find very sad, on the other hand, at the time of taking these photographs and sticking my head out through the broken glass of the facades you could still see some of the movie posters that were there, if my memory serves me right I saw a poster for the 007 movie, but I don’t remember which one So I did some research on the web and realized there's one from 2012 and one from 2015, so possibly one of those years was the cinema's closure but I can't be sure, it's just what I suspect.

Para mi ese cine tiene bonitos recuerdos, como por ejemplo cuando yo tenía unos 10 años y pasaron la película de Pokemón, la sala estaba abarrotada de gente y hasta nos tuvimos que sentar en el suelo, fue maravilloso ver como todos los niños e incluso los padres cantaron la canción de dicho anime antes de empezar la película y con la acústica del teatro se escuchaba increíble. No se el estado actual del teatro porque hace muchos años que no paso por esa calle de la Zona Colonial pero sería lindo que los dueños o algún otro persona hiciera la inversión de revivir dicho lugar y restaurarlo como se debe con el mismo estilo y sus acabados en madera, así Carora seguiría teniendo el cine pero además un bonito lugar que visitar.

For me, that theater has fond memories, like when I was about 10 years old and the Pokemon movie was shown. The theater was packed with people and we even had to sit on the floor. It was wonderful to see how all the children and even the parents sang the theme song from the anime before the movie started, and with the theater's acoustics, it sounded incredible. I don't know the current state of the theater because I haven't been down that street in the Colonial Zone for many years, but it would be nice if the owners or someone else would make the investment to revive the place and restore it properly with the same style and its wood finishes. That way, Carora would still have the movie theater but also a beautiful place to visit.
