Saludos a todos, como les he comentado en post anteriores desde octubre del año pasado adoptamos a una gata adulta con sus dos hijos, el proceso de recuperación ha sido un poco lento con ellos, pero aun así ha valido la pena al ver los resultados, actualmente la gata Mamita ya tiene tres meses desde la esterilización y por fin ya dejó de amamantar a los gatos, pues estos ya estaban muy grandes para eso pero ella seguía haciéndolo y yo pienso que eso evitaba que ella subiera más rápido de peso después de la cirugía, pero ya han pasado unos días desde que ya no lo hace y los resultados son notorios, el peso de la gata aunque no lo he medido es notable, su pelaje y su comportamiento ha dado un gran giro positivo.

Greetings everyone, as I mentioned in previous posts, we adopted an adult cat and her two kittens last October. The recovery process has been a bit slow for them, but it's been worth it to see the results. Mamita is now three months post-spay and has finally stopped nursing her kittens, as they were too old for that. She continued nursing them, and I think it prevented her from gaining weight too quickly after the surgery. It's been a few days since she stopped, and the results are noticeable. Although I haven't measured her weight, it's significant, and her coat and behavior have improved dramatically.

Por otro lado, algo muy curioso que ha pasado con sus gatitos es que desde el principio había una gran diferencia de tamaño entre Blacky y Rayitas, siendo este último más pequeño aun cuando pertenecieran a la misma camada, con el paso del tiempo me he dado cuenta que Rayitas come mucho menos aunque se desespera más por la comida y es más lento al masticar también, siempre que lo alimentábamos juntos el tendía a tomar la comida y salir corriendo como si tuviera miedo de que los demás gatos u otro animal le tomara lo suyo, esta actitud me preocupaba muchísimo, pero ahora hemos avanzado un poco, vigilándolos mientras comen hemos logrado que cada uno coma en su tacita por separado y también hemos logrado que Rayitas no saque la comida y se la lleve lejos, aunque todavía tiende un poco a dejar caer restos de comida por fuera del recipiente, al cuidar que cada uno coma su porción y no se meta en la taza del otro ni por accidente hemos reducido un poco la ansiedad de Rayitas con respecto a la comida.

On the other hand, something very curious has happened with her kittens is that from the beginning there was a big size difference between Blacky and Rayitas, the latter being smaller even though they belonged to the same litter. Over time, I've noticed that Rayitas eats much less, although he gets more anxious about food and chews more slowly. Whenever we fed them together, he tended to grab the food and run away as if he were afraid that the other cats or another animal would take his. This behavior worried me a lot, but now we've made some progress. By watching them while they eat, we've managed to get each one to eat from their own separate bowl, and we've also managed to stop Rayitas from taking his food far away. Although he still tends to drop bits of food outside the bowl, by making sure each one eats their portion and doesn't get into the other's bowl, even accidentally, we've reduced Rayitas's anxiety about food a bit.

A veces me diento un poco deprimida por todo lo que tuvieron que pasar estos gatitos en la calle antes de que los adoptáramos, pero ahora que los veo mejor la alegría es inmensa, no puedo negar que aun temo por su salud, pues es un proceso lento, debemos seguir con la desparasitación periódica y también tratar de que se adapten lo mejor posible a ser un gato doméstico, porque en el caso de la Mamita ha sido un poco difícil evitar que ella busque cazar presas o busque comida en otros lugares y se las traiga a sus gatitos, se que ella no me entiende pero a veces le hablo y le digo que ya no debe hacer eso, que mientras yo pueda seguir dándoles de comer ella no tiene que sentir los mismos temores que cuando vivía afuera y que no es necesario que busque comida por otro lado, aunque cada día suben más los precios de los alimentos para gato y mi situación económica actual no es la mejor, mi mayor deseo es poder seguir cuidando de ellos y que sigan estando tranquilos en casa.

Sometimes I feel a little depressed about everything these kittens had to go through on the street before we adopted them, but now that I see them doing better, the joy is immense. I can't deny that I still worry about their health, as it's a slow process. We have to continue with their regular deworming and also try to help them adapt as best as possible to being a house cat. In Mamita's case, it's been a little difficult to stop her from hunting or looking for food elsewhere and bringing it back to her kittens. I know she doesn't understand, but sometimes I talk to her and tell her that she shouldn't do that anymore, that as long as I can keep feeding them, she doesn't have to feel the same fears she had when she lived outside and that she doesn't need to look for food elsewhere. Even though cat food prices keep rising and my current financial situation isn't the best, my greatest wish is to be able to continue taking care of them and for them to remain peaceful at home.
