Día de retroalimentación en la academia

Saludos queridas madres y padres de Hive, la semana pasada en la academia de ajedrez donde asiste mi hijo Rafael tuvieron una actividad especial, se trataba de jugar un partida de ajedrez clásico con un compañero, el ajedrez clásico es diferente en cuanto que el tiempo en el reloj es mayor y los jugadores deben llevar la planilla de notación de cada uno de los movimientos de sus piezas y las del adversario, por lo tanto hay más chance de concentración, mi hijo y si compañero tenían una hora en el reloj pero solo usaron 27 minutos en total, mi niño ganó la partida pero lo más importante no era la victoria sino el proceso de retroalimentación qué se haría en la siguiente clase la cual fue hoy.

Greetings dear mothers and fathers of Hive, last week at the chess academy where my son Rafael attends they had a special activity, it was about playing a game of classical chess with a partner, classical chess is different in that the time on the clock is longer and the players must keep a notation sheet for each of the moves of their pieces and those of their opponent, therefore there is more chance to concentrate, my son and his partner had an hour on the clock but they only used 27 minutes in total, my child won the game but the most important thing was not the victory but the feedback process that would be done in the next class which was today.

El profesor se llevó entonces las planillas de los dos jugadores para evaluar qué todas las jugadas concordaran en ambas, además de evaluar el desempeño de cada uno, los aciertos y desaciertos de cada uno, mi hijo jugó con la piezas blancas y su compañero con las piezas negras, hoy fue el día en que el profesor dictara de nuevo los movimientos de las planillas para que Rafael las repitiera en el ajedrez mural y al mismo tiempo su compañero en el tablero de ajedrez de mesa, entonces comenzó el verdadero objetivo de la actividad.

The teacher then took the scorecards from the two players to assess whether all the moves agreed on both, as well as to assess the performance of each one, the successes and failures of each one. My son played with the white pieces and his partner with the black pieces. Today was the day when the teacher would dictate the moves from the scorecards again for Rafael to repeat on the wall chess board and at the same time for his partner to repeat them on the table chess board. Then the real objective of the activity began.

Muchas personas creen que la retroalimentación es solo alentar a los estudiantes con palabras positivas después de observar un resultado , mientras que el sentido real es hacer preguntas que lleven al estudiante a pensar en su desempeño, evaluar por si mismo sus procedimientos y acciones, verificar sus errores pero también ver las posibilidades que ha podido tomar. En este sentido, se hace un refuerzo positivo por parte del profesor pero al mismo tiempo se busca que los estudiantes expliquen en que estaban pensando, cuál era su estrategia detrás de cada movimiento, hoy estuve realmente impresionada al ver el desarrollo que ha tenido mi hijo en la disciplina del ajedrez, pues en cada movimiento importante el profesor le preguntaba cuál era el objetivo y Rafael podía responder con una seguidilla de jugadas anticipadas en su mente, es decir que tanto mi hijo como su compañero evalúan las variantes de cada situación y pueden estar preparados para las respuestas del adversario, en pocas palabras mi hijo y su compañero están avanzando de nivel.

Many people believe that feedback is just encouraging students with positive words after seeing a result, while the real sense is to ask questions that lead the student to think about his performance, evaluate his procedures and actions by himself, check his mistakes but also see the possibilities he could have taken. In this sense, positive reinforcement is given by the teacher but at the same time students are encouraged to explain what they were thinking, what their strategy was behind each move. Today I was really impressed to see the development my son has had in the discipline of chess, because in each important move the teacher asked him what the objective was and Rafael could answer with a series of moves anticipated in his mind, that is to say that both my son and his partner evaluate the variants of each situation and can be prepared for the opponent’s responses. In short, my son and his partner are advancing in level.

Yo obviamente solo estaba observando, entiendo el ajedrez pero mi nivel es de aficionada, en cambio al ver que Rafael ha aprendido tanto me siento muy orgullosa de él y siento que de algún modo esta actividad lo ayuda a desarrollarse mentalmente, además estoy muy contenta por haber encontrado una academia con tan buen profesor, el futuro es incierto con respecto a los gustos y aficiones de mi hijo, pero mientras él siga disfrutando del ajedrez yo lo seguiré apoyando 🥰

I was obviously just observing, I understand chess but I am at an amateur level, however, seeing that Rafael has learned so much makes me feel very proud of him and I feel that in some way this activity helps him develop mentally, I am also very happy to have found an academy with such a good teacher, the future is uncertain with respect to my son’s tastes and hobbies, but as long as he continues to enjoy chess I will continue to support him 🥰
