I have grown up surrounded by the familiar warmth of Christmas carols, candlelight services, family gatherings, and the joy that comes with celebrating the birth of Christ.

This season has always brought me comfort year after year,but sometimes,i do think about the beauty of other cultural celebrations happening around this time of the year.

If I were to choose one tradition I would have loved to experience alongside christmas celebrations, it would be the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.

Hanukkah has always intrigued me because of its deep symbolism, its emphasis on gratitude, and the way it celebrates hope in times of difficulty,which are values that resonate deeply with my Christian beliefs.

Having read about the story behind Hanukkah, whereby a small amount of oil miraculously burned for eight days in the Temple, it reminds me of how God often works through small beginnings to produce great miracles.

Joining a family as they gather around the menora during Hanukkah celebration,singing blessings, offering prayers, and reflecting on the miracle of light,sharing meals,exchanging gifts and enjoying playful moment,would have made me feel another dimension of God’s relationship with His people and also add an enriching layer to the joy and fellowship i already know during christmas.

Even though the traditions differ from my own, the underlying message of remembering God’s goodness feels familiar and comforting.

Celebrating Hanukkah would not replace my Christian traditions, but would be an opportunity to deepen my understanding of another faith heritage while standing firmly in my own.

In many ways, experiencing the Festival of Lights would simply remind me that light,that is,God’s light,shines beautifully in many places and through many stories.
