From Uncertainty to Hope: The Skill I'm Grateful to Be Learning

The beginning of this year took a turn I never expected. I was working at a studio, doing my best to stay consistent and focused, when everything changed overnight. The boss I had been working under sold the studio and travelled abroad without informing any of us in advance. No warnings, no goodbyes. The new owner stepped in, and although I stayed on for a while, hoping to continue working, he eventually let us go without much explanation. That’s how I started 2025 jobless and unsure of what was next.

By February, a new opportunity came knocking. I applied and got accepted for a job at GZI Can Company. The pay was great, the position promising, and everything seemed to be falling back into place. But then came another twist this time from home. My parents sat me down and advised me to think differently. Since I was in my one year Industrial Training (IT), they suggested I skip the job and instead use the time to learn a valuable skill: laptop repairs.

It wasn’t an easy decision at all. I had a real job offer in my hands, and walking away from it to start learning something entirely new felt like taking a huge risk. But after a lot of thought, I realized the wisdom in their advice. Learning a skill is something that stays with you for life and can even open doors you never expected.

So, I took the bold step and began training in laptop and computer repairs. The beginning was not easy. There were days I doubted myself, especially when I couldn't grasp certain technical aspects or when repairs didn’t go well. I faced moments of frustration, tight finances, and self-doubt. But gradually, I started learning the ropes.

I learned how to open laptops carefully, troubleshoot problems, change faulty parts, and even perform basic chip-level repairs. Beyond just technical skills, I also began to understand the business side of repairs how to relate with customers, set fair prices, manage my tools and time, and even handle pressure when multiple devices need fixing.

Right now, I’m not yet where I want to be, but I’m definitely not where I started. I’ve started making small earnings from successful repairs, and each time someone trusts me with their system, it builds my confidence. It feels good to know that I’m creating something for myself something that can grow into a full business in the future.

I’m truly grateful for this journey. It may not have started how I expected, but the direction it's heading now gives me hope. I'm learning, improving, and discovering what I’m capable of. Looking back, I see that every disappointment was a redirection. I’m thankful to my parents for their guidance, and I’m thankful to myself for trusting the process.

The journey is still long, but I’m on my way and for that, I am grateful.

That's a good decision from your parents.
Being employed sounds good but at the end when someone is solely depending on it without anything in mind or at hand, life becomes frustrating
