New Year, New Resolutions and Old Me.
First of all, a very Happy New Year to all of you.
Now, if you remember, I already set a goal for this year. The target is to hit 200 posts by year's end. Which sounds reasonable and doable. But it's actually hard when you add the key parameter to it. Me. Yes. I am the problem here.
I added a small clause to the goal, that i’d be writing on certain topics on certain days, you know just to keep things in line. And Today is Day 1, things have already got out of hand here. As per the scheduler, it's supposed to be the Imagination / creative Fridays, meaning storyteller mode.
I’m sitting in front of my laptop, waiting for a story to appear out of thin air. Meanwhile, my brain is nudging me to check Galaxy Defence because the weekend event has started. My wife is motivating me to clean the bathroom drain that chose to clog itself on New Year’s Day. My stockbroker sends an alert that an entire sector is bleeding red. I suddenly want to write about how the ending of Stranger Things was… meh.
And my body? It’s screaming for a rest day.
This is the problem, and it's been there for quite some time. My ability to stay focused has gone down. It's not just at this personal task but at work too. There is just too much to do, and by the time I am finished with just 20% of the task, my energy is 100% depleted. And I had been trying the hack to caffeinate myself for energy. Honestlyy for the past 2 weeks, my tea and coffee intakes have been more than water. Which is not a good thing. I am afraid those nasty stomach troubles may return if I continue.
So I summon all the Caffeine-Dependent Lifeforms on this Hive for my help. How are you guys able to handle the addiction? I think the question needs to be rephrased. How do you deal with the attention crisis? What do you do when 24 hours a day, 7days a week, 52weeks a year isn't enough? This may sound like an excuse but I am genuinely looking for answer. I got so many things in my to-do list that Blogging or the process of creating new story has taken a backseat.
And this is what's written on my desk. Not sure if I am getting motivated or pressured into stuff.
- Motivational Mondays
- Money Talks Tuesdays
- Game Night / Contest on Wednesdays
- Thoughtful Thursdays
- Imagination/ Creative Fridays
- Screen Review Saturday
- Lazy Sunday Post
I am still working on the Friday and Saturday Names. I think they can be spiced up a little more
Now, I know this is supposed to be a storytelling Night, but let's try it another Friday. I will take this as a Win
Apart from this, I am doing great.
TARGET - 1/200

Hi

I am really struggling with Caffeine addiction. Today I had 5 coffees and 2 teas. While the Tea tastes great. I am afraid of side effects of these hot beverages, especially the one regarding stomach burning. The problem is If i am not getting the Tea /Coffee on time, I develop a slight but annoying headache. Need Help.

At least you admit it XD
that's already a hell of a lot more than a lot of people
I decided to try a daily photo thing (literally just point the phone camera at anything and press the damn button, didn't have to be anything profound or particularly artistic or well composed or anything like that) towards the very end of last year and leaking over into this year. As with most of the things I try to do daily, exactly this happened XD
The only thing that's working for me is trying to keep a schedule and that in and of itself is a major headache as it's the very antithesis to my brain's optimal method of functioning. And part of that keeping to a schedule is stopping things when you're out of the timeblock for it to work on something else regardless of how loudly and shrilly and angrily your brain and other people are SCREAMING at you to "just" "finish" the thing that you're doing because it's absolutely more important than anything else could ever be, because if you actually have that much to do, all pushing through to finish this one thing is going to do is make everything else even more impossible to "catch up" on.
Also "just" and "only" (in the context of "I just want" or "this should only take a few minutes" and anything related can be major red flags (whether spoken/thought by you or someone else) so allow a bit of extra thought to analyse the intent behind them.
And speaking from several years worth of experience don't sacrifice sleep to get more time, the only guarantee there is to make litrerally everything infinitely worse.
the reason that it's been an ongoing problem for years for me is because I'm probably actually insane trying to same thing hoping for a different result which never materialises because I've been that desperate for more time at any and all cost -- even when the only thing that's ever happened is the cost has never ever been worth it not even once and not even the times I stayed up late to finish assignments back in the day and having insomnia and night owl sleeping patterns in an age that still seems incapable of accepting the fact that not all humans are diurnal exacerbates matters
Try maxing out your coffees at 3-4 and replacing the rest with tea. And if you like herbal tea replace some of the tea with that or clear soup/broth in a mug x_x I get where you're coming from, I get that headache when I miss my second cuppa (I have two coffees a day) x_x
It sounds like work is unnecessarily stressful enough and you have family and friends as well, anything on here is supposed to be fun and hopefully skill developmental, don't let it be an additional source of stress :)
You know what's crazy some people are able to do things so effortlessly, like they are on auto pilot almost with machine like accuracy and well timed too.
My mom for instance before she was diagnosed with RA. She would wake up 0545 hrs everyday. Without alarm or anything. Daily, no matter the weather outside or if it's just a sunday or billion other things. While here just on day3 i was making up excuses. 😅
Truly some people are built different.
And the just only thing seems to be universal and the Indian variant of that is even more crazy. Because whenever it comes there's a good seasoning of manipulation. 🤣
5:45am is a horrible time to wake up XD
I've got a pretty good internal clock, I wake up by myself between 7 and 9 (it's been very reliably 7 and 8 lately because I've been trying to go to bed earlier) and will wake up at ridiculoust imes like 5:45 or earlier if I know I have to wake up "early" but don't specify a time (and sometimes even if I do specify a time). I've never used an alarm clock, the closest is I've occasionally asked J to make sure I'm awake by a certain time as he gets up earlier than I do but while he has poked in as requested to make sure I'm awake he's never needed to actually wake me up.
I think for most people as long as you're getting enough sleep (which most people probably aren't these days) you will probably be able to just wake up without an alarm clock, and in some cases your internal clock is on a different thing to external clocks (perhaps your preferred hours are at night, or even a bit later in the day like sleep til 9 or 10am and productive from 10ish til 7ish or something) and if your schedule is unfriendly to how your body/brain functions best then I guess you're stuck having to use alarm clocks ^_^;
I know it is possible to flip it at least temporarily (I am currently running diurnally again) but in my case I will flip back at a second's notice and then take a month to try to get it to flip again XD
I wanna say I think that's a generic Asian thing XD but it doesn't seem to be even limited to that ^_^;
Oh! Master, guide me.
This is actually a good and acceptable explanation. My workload is all over. At times, my off-hours are during the afternoon and evening, while my work seeps into late nights and early mornings.
It's very difficult to be flexible with such work demands. Although, as per the policy, I can take the next session off, which I usually do. But my body would not obey my mind and wouldn't rest, adding to the fatigue that usually carries over to the weekend.
Guide you in what? Flipping sleep schedules? If you're not doing shift work pick a time and go to bed at that time, read a book (actual book NOT pdf/ebook) or do some writing (pen and paper NOT device) or meditate (and if you fall asleep even better) or whatever else to slow your brain down (if you're doing anything other than reading or lying down meditating optionally start that 30-60min before "bedtime").
Then at the time you want to sleep turn out the lights and then just stay there. Even if you don't fall asleep and you get incredibly bored and desperately want to look at your phone again or do something else just don't.
there will be a period of time where you may need to work through some thoughts and stuff you haven't had time for and also your body needs to adjust to the idea of going to bed rather than just straight up collapsing in exhaustion not that I've ever done that x_x
Do you do timeblocking? If you do STICK TO IT (this has been my biggest challenges/failure by far) and adjust it as you need to when you have some idea of how long any given thing takes on average. All the problems I've had so far is usually around this because I keep going overtime usually failing to finish something and the normal result is I still haven't finished the thing I was trying to finish and because I've gone over other timeblocks everything that didn't get done is now even further behind so then I stay up late trying to catch up which makes everything infinitely worse when you have a partner who naturally gets up at 5am and you've gone to bed at some point from midnight onwards. Have to remember that if everything is a priority nothing is a priority.
And then go to bed when it's bedtime (I'm actually still working on that one x_x).
If you are doing shift work I don't know how to help as I've never done that before ^_^;
Exactly, Planning isn't the problem, but staying on course is a new story. And I end up throwing away the plan.

I think I tried the night routine stuff about a decade back and it worked that time. Dont know why I stopped but maybe I should go back and try to be in that routine. The biggest problem is still the work. Not being able to leave on time or not being able to say no to myself.
🙁
If the plan isn't working that's fine but come up with another one that will work and then adjust it as you need to. Throwing it out does tell us that you think it's easier to stick to old habits even if they're completely not working out for you because making new ones is very hard work that nobody wants to do :)
If you're anything like me you may have been desperate for more time and that was the only thing you could get more time from. Just try again :D
That could be part of the timeblocking thing (finish your last task and freaking STOP no matter what). You're the only one that can help you with that though :)
