Business and relationship should be isolated

We are human beings and with our growth, we start to understand the meaning and value of a relationship, especially with family members, loved people, and our friends. And I believe that relationships are one of the most precious things for us.

After that, there exists another important thing which is money and it has such a kind of power to change the mentality of a human and in front of my eyes, I have seen many incidents. For any kind of business money is needed for investment. Several times one question comes to mind whether mixing business with a relationship is a good thing or not. I have encountered very few situations like that but I can answer it based on my father's experience and I am sharing about it.

I hope you can remember that I was in a distant relative's house for 5 years for my study purposes. From the beginning time, those people were very good and their behavior was satisfying and I believe that the behavior was genuine. I was there for more than 1 year and the senior brother asked for a good amount of money from my father to start a new business. The system of quite simple. They promised to give a fixed interest from their profit until they return the full money to my father. They insisted my father to make an official agreement for it.

My father believed them blindly and refused to go for official agreement and I believe they gained the trust of my father because of their good nature. My father told them not to think too much about the interest and he won't mind even if they wouldn't pay the interest also. He was happy to be able to help them. In the first few months, they insisted on giving the profit but my father refused to take it saying if they could return the seed money, it would be ok for him. So they stopped insisting my father to give profit. As I was staying there, my father gave the money to them as a sign of appreciation without considering profit. He prioritized the relationship over the business.

Unfortunately, within a year they suffered a huge loss in their business and almost all the investment turned into a loss. As my father acknowledged about the situation, he didn't ask for money during their crisis time. But when their situation became better after 3 years my father asked for money because he needed the money for some reason. They started to show various kinds of reasons for not giving the money and after a certain time when I left their house, they directly refused to pay the money although they were capable enough to pay the money they had taken from my father. My father didn't have any agreement and so he could not do anything.

It was an eye-opening sight for me. I learned some lessons from the incident. And the lesson is humans can change because of money and in the case of business we should not proitize the relationship. Every business still should be based on an official agreement for safety because those trusted people betray us for money in the last. We should not allow anyone to betray us for business as well as for financial purposes.
