Por mucho tiempo tenían el negocio perfecto. Geez había heredado la audacia de su padre en los negocios y, luego de mucho esfuerzo, había logrado estar a cargo de una de las fracciones de la línea familiar y era un manager musical muy conocido, todo gracias a estar constantemente siguiendo las palabras y consejos de quienes lo habían ayudado por años. Tone, su primo, también está más que formado, igualmente por la familia; está llevando exitosamente todo lo que era manejo y traslado de equipos musicales, los cuales eran parte del negocio inicial de la abuela, que con mucho esmero había enseñado y delegado a su nieto.

Y así mismo, a la par estaba Melvin, un gran amigo de ambos y del que sus familias tenían convenios y negocios, pues este estaba a cargo como productor, siendo muy reconocido en el medio y muchas veces el centro de atención con su trabajo. A menudo estos solían ingeniársela para trabajar en conjunto haciendo uso de sus talentos y, como buenos amigos, solían reunirse para conversar y charlar de todo; sin embargo, cada vez que estaban juntos, salía el mismo tema: Geez y Melvin destacaban su trabajo por encima de los otros dos y decían que era más complicado e importante; duraban horas hasta que Tone, luego de escuchar y cansarse, lograba de alguna forma cambiar de tema.

Sin embargo, esa noche de agosto fue distinta, pues entre esa rutinaria discusión de amigos, Tone, un poco cansado y recordando a su abuelo, propuso algo que cambiaría el rumbo completamente: "¿Y si intercambiamos trabajos por un tiempo?", dijo de manera astuta, pero lo suficientemente alto para que fuera captado totalmente por ambos chicos. Y es que, aunque normalmente cuando entraban en esta discusión, Tone a veces se unía solo por reírse un rato; y es que, al ser mayor que ambos, había recorrido más, por lo que sabía un poco sobre algunas lecciones de vida, por lo que propuso a ambos que por una semana cambiaran de puesto y que quien pudiera de manera eficaz con los cargos ganaba.

Geez y Melvin por un momento dudaron, pero desde niños, como buenos amigos, solían ser competitivos, por lo que hubiera o no premio, para ellos era una oportunidad perfecta, por lo que la siguiente semana comenzaría este reto. Habían acordado que durante los próximos 7 días Melvin haría el trabajo de Geez y viceversa, mientras que Tone estaría observándolos. Así mismo empezó. Melvin llegó a primera hora a la oficina de Geez, algo confiado, pues siempre solía verlo al teléfono o en la computadora, por lo que pensaba sería fácil; sin embargo, ese día una montaña de contratos lo esperaba. La realidad detrás de los teléfonos lo golpeó y se vio obligado a entablar conversaciones con diversas personas, así como agendar reuniones, hacer y discutir contratos y estar de un sitio a otro con diversos artistas, cosa que lo agotaba y lo dejaba hasta en blanco.

Geez, no fue la excepción; la cachetada de realidad que lo esperaba no era tanto la modalidad de trabajo que tenía que asumir, sino lo que conllevaban las largas jornadas al computador adaptando grabaciones, sonidos y tonos musicales. El no conocer ese mundo del todo lo llevó a tardar más de lo común y tener varios errores; para él era aturdirse sin esperar, con un botón tocado por accidente o no entender lo distinto de un ritmo a otro, y es que, aunque se criaron en ambientes de música, no tenían perspectiva de la diferencia abismal de ambas carreras; ellos creían que sería fácil; sin embargo, día tras otro era un reto que los agotaba y los dejaba con las ganas de pedir ayuda, pero su orgullo no les dejaba.

Tone, por su parte, estaba observando detalladamente cómo ambos parecían poco a poco entender la importancia de cada trabajo. Sentía una pizca de satisfacción recordando que su abuelo le enseñó ese mismo valor casi de la misma forma, y el ponerlo en práctica lo hacía sentir nostálgico. Y para cuando faltaban 3 días, entró en su última jugada, la cual era que también comprendieran la importancia de su trabajo, por lo que comenzó a ser un poco pesado con las coordinaciones. Comenzó su trabajo con el de los chicos; ellos estaban acostumbrados, pero desde el trabajo del otro, por lo que para Melvin tener que coordinar con Tone equipos y logística lo dejó acabado y para Geez tener que pasar pistas y melodías con especificaciones para instrumentos y bases quedó en el punto que no sabía qué hacer.

Pero Tone fue implacable, dejándolos sin chance ni oportunidades hasta el último día cuando, ya agotados los dos, cambió las reglas e hizo que trabajaran en conjunto ya con lo aprendido y, sorprendentemente para ambos, no solo dio frutos, sino que, como ya entendían más sobre el otro, el trabajo se aligeró y con la ayuda que en un principio se negaba a aceptar, fue la indicada para que solo en ese día pudieran finiquitar cualquier problema pendiente y poner todo en marcha al 100%.

La siguiente semana, mientras los tres se reunían de nuevo, se notaba la diferencia, pues al haber aprendido la lección, no competían, sino que apoyaban y hablaban sin anteponer el trabajo de nadie. Tone estaba feliz porque ya no los volvería a escuchar pelearse y ellos habían aprendido una valiosa lección sobre valorar cada profesión y no juzgar por muy fácil que se vea la portada.

For a long time, they had the perfect business. Geez had inherited his father's business acumen and, after much effort, had managed to take charge of one of the family's divisions and was a well-known music manager, all thanks to constantly following the words and advice of those who had helped him for years. Tone, his cousin, is also well-educated, equally by the family; he is successfully handling all aspects of managing and transporting musical equipment, which were part of his grandmother's initial business, which she had painstakingly taught and delegated to her grandson.

And then there was Melvin, a close friend of both of them, with whom their families had agreements and businesses. He was in charge as a producer, highly recognized in the industry, and often the center of attention with his work. They often managed to work together using their talents and, like good friends, would get together to talk and chat about everything. However, every time they were together, the same topic came up: Geez and Melvin would single out their job over the other two, saying it was more complicated and important. These discussions would go on for hours until Tone, after listening and growing tired, somehow managed to change the subject.

However, that August night was different. Amidst that routine discussion between friends, Tone, a little tired and remembering his grandfather, proposed something that would completely change the course: "What if we swap jobs for a while?" he said slyly, but loudly enough to be fully understood by both boys. Although they usually got into this discussion, Tone sometimes joined in just for a laugh. Being older than both of them, he had traveled further, so he knew a bit about some life lessons. He proposed that they both swap positions for a week, and whoever could handle them effectively would win.

Geez and Melvin hesitated for a moment, but since childhood, as good friends, they tended to be competitive, so whether there was a prize or not, it was a perfect opportunity for them, so the following week would begin this challenge. They had agreed that for the next seven days, Melvin would do Geez's work and vice versa, while Tone would observe them. And so it began. Melvin arrived early at Geez's office, somewhat confident, as he always saw him on the phone or on the computer, so he thought it would be easy. However, that day, a mountain of contracts awaited him. The reality behind the phones hit him hard, and he was forced to engage in conversations with various people, schedule meetings, make and discuss contracts, and run from one place to another with various artists, which exhausted him and left him feeling blank.

Geez was no exception; the reality that awaited him wasn't so much the work modality he had to assume, but what the long days at the computer, adapting recordings, sounds, and musical tones, entailed. Not being fully familiar with the world led him to take longer than usual and make several mistakes. For him, it was getting flustered without waiting, accidentally pressing a button, or not understanding the difference between one rhythm and another. Although they grew up in musical environments, they had no perspective on the vast difference between the two careers. They thought it would be easy; however, day after day, it was a challenge that exhausted them and left them wanting to ask for help, but their pride wouldn't let them.

Tone, for his part, was closely observing how they both seemed to gradually understand the importance of each task. He felt a tinge of satisfaction remembering that his grandfather taught him that same value in almost the same way, and putting it into practice made him feel nostalgic. And with three days left, he entered his final move, which was to make them understand the importance of his work as well, so he began to be a bit tiresome with the coordination. He started his work with the boys; they were used to it, but from each other's jobs, so for Melvin, having to coordinate equipment and logistics with Tone was a chore, and for Geez, having to pass on tracks and melodies with specifications for instruments and bass lines was a chore, leaving him at a point where he didn't know what to do.

But Tone was relentless, leaving them with no chance or opportunity until the last day when, both exhausted, he changed the rules and had them work together, already using what they had learned. Surprisingly for both of them, not only did it bear fruit, but since they now understood more about each other, the workload became lighter. With the help he initially refused to accept, it was the right one, so that on that day alone they could settle any outstanding issues and get everything up and running at 100%.

The following week, as the three met again, the difference was noticeable. Having learned their lesson, they didn't compete, but instead supported each other and talked without putting anyone's work first. Tone was happy because he wouldn't hear them argue again, and they had learned a valuable lesson about valuing each profession and not judging no matter how easy the cover looks.
