¿Cómo percibimos nuestros reflejos reales? | How do we perceive our real reflections?

Los espejos para mí han marcado muchas formas distintas de verme, desde ese conflicto interno de aceptarme tal como soy, luchando con mis inseguridades, hasta tener esos momentos donde ese reflejo se vuelve la respuesta a muchas preguntas. La verdad es que, más allá de que les tenga algún tipo de odio, la realidad es que adoro los espejos y no porque me guste verme allí, sino por lo que estos representan a nivel místico, energético e incluso lo paranormal.

For me, mirrors have shaped many different ways of seeing myself, from that internal struggle of accepting myself as I am, struggling with my insecurities, to those moments where that reflection becomes the answer to many questions. The truth is, beyond any hatred I have for them, I actually adore mirrors, not because I like seeing myself in them, but because of what they represent on a mystical, energetic, and even paranormal level.

Una de mis conversaciones conmigo misma más largas, aparte de esas donde estoy sola con mis pensamientos, ha sido también con el espejo, desde esos momentos donde nos vemos ante un reflejo apagado o decidido y nos damos esas palabras decididas de motivación y aliento que muchas veces nos impulsan a tomar decisiones sanadoras y positivas para nosotros. Y es que a veces somos ciegos a los consejos y voces externas y caemos en la realidad cuando nuestro propio reflejo nos da esa visión de realidad, y en mi caso, muchos momentos donde, estando triste o incluso rota, esa verme así ha hecho que me levante y me dé esa promesa de no dejar que solo mi reflejo, sino todo mi ser, no esté triste.

One of my longest conversations with myself, aside from those where I'm alone with my thoughts, has also been with the mirror, from those moments where we see ourselves before a dull or determined reflection and we give ourselves those decisive words of motivation and encouragement that often drive us to make healing and positive decisions for ourselves. Sometimes we are blind to external advice and voices and fall back on reality when our own reflection gives us that vision of reality. In my case, there have been many moments where, being sad or even broken, seeing myself like that has made me stand up and give myself that promise to not only let my reflection, but my whole being, not be sad.

Para mí, una de las cosas que mi abuela me enseñó desde niña es que las mejores palabras son ante el espejo; desde el punto de vista energético y espiritual, son una forma de ver nuestra energía y que nuestro reflejo sea lo mejor de nosotros, y desde el punto de vista emocional, algo que sé es que me gusta verme en el espejo cuando estoy feliz, ya que potencia mi autoestima, y que también son la manera en la que vemos detalles que no detectaremos de nosotros de manera simple, y no me refiero a detalles físicos como gorditos o acné, sino a que podemos apreciar qué transmite nuestra mirada, la cual es una vista de nuestra alma, y eso es un paso de autodescubrimiento muy importante.

For me, one of the things my grandmother taught me since I was a child is that the best words are in front of the mirror; from an energetic and spiritual point of view, they are a way to see our energy and that our reflection is the best of us, and from an emotional point of view, something I know is that I like to see myself in the mirror when I'm happy, since it boosts my self-esteem, and that they are also the way in which we see details that we would not detect about ourselves in a simple way, and I'm not referring to physical details like fat or acne, but to the fact that we can appreciate what our gaze transmits, which is a view of our soul, and that is a very important step in self-discovery.

Y es que por años usábamos el espejo para perfeccionar la imagen que los demás verán de nosotros, esa máscara que a veces usamos y que hasta cierto punto es un talento. En mi caso, siempre me ayudaba a perfeccionar lo que verían de mí en el trabajo, con amigos, o lo que quería proyectar cuando estuviera incluso caminando sola por la calle. Es esa forma de nosotros mismos dar esos detalles a las corazas que usaremos en cada momento, pero nos cegamos en eso que olvidamos vernos como somos y apreciar a quién somos por encima de lo que queremos que vean de nosotros, a incluso escuchar esa voz interna que está en nuestro real reflejo, y a mí me costó entenderlo.

For years, we used the mirror to perfect the image others would see of us, that mask we sometimes wear and which, to a certain extent, is a talent. In my case, it always helped me perfect what others would see of me at work, with friends, or what I wanted to project even when I was walking alone down the street. It's that way we give ourselves those details to the armor we will wear at any given moment, but we become blinded by that fact that we forget to see ourselves as we are and appreciate who we are above what we want others to see of us, to even listen to that inner voice that is in our true reflection, and it was hard for me to understand.

Hay una canción que me gusta mucho, que es un mensaje claro a lo que a veces está en nuestro reflejo. Esta es de La Oreja de Van Gogh y siempre ha sido de mis favoritas y creo que es ideal para este tema. Esta se llama "La chica del espejo" y habla de esa voz que nos motiva en cada lucha y que, por más que estemos mal, siempre podremos entendernos desde nuestro reflejo, desde aquello que muestra el espejo.

There's a song I really like, which sends a clear message about what sometimes lies in our reflection. This one is by La Oreja de Van Gogh and has always been one of my favorites, and I think it's perfect for this topic. It's called "The Girl in the Mirror," and it speaks of that voice that motivates us through every struggle, and that, no matter how bad things are, we can always understand ourselves from our reflection, from what the mirror shows.
